The woman who was assaulted by a police officer at the Shiashie branch of Midland Savings and Loans, has spoken about the incident.
The incident occurred on Thursday, July 19, 2018.
Patience Osafo, who disclosed that the baby she was carrying was her grandchild, indicated that she went to Midland to collect her money; an amount of GHC270 which she had been 'chasing' for a while to no avail.
A mother of two and 36 years of age, Patience Osafo told UTV's Agya Kwabena that her firstborn is a girl who is 17 years old and the second one is 9 years old.
Her 17-year-old daughter is also epileptic
Her firstborn, the epileptic girl, was raped at the age of 16 and the baby she was holding in the video is her grandchild, who is about 2 months and some weeks old.
According to her, she is a petty trader who sells candies at Spanner (the footbridge at the Accra Mall) and started saving with the Midland Savings and Loans two months ago, with hopes of getting a loan from them in the future to be able to expand her business.
She was sharing her story in an exclusive interview on UTV Friday night.

Ghanaians are cognitive bias when it comes to matters like this. Until de woman shared her story no one would have know why she would behave that way. I am not saying the policeman is right, he's very wrong but the woman should have respect at least his uniform. Yes she was agrieved by the banks behavior but at least this is an office in uniform. Let's put ourselves in his shoes. He also have children and family as well. Let's speak in a way to curb this acts and it's reoccurance. I hope u side wt me peace fm...pls let's stop being too emotional and face facts. This was a fight, how can u fight with a baby in your arms. I think the officer got more provoked when the woman hit him. I also saw the woman going after the officer several times. Ghanaians I beg you let's respect our police wai. If we care for them as well what happened to the police officer who recently lost his eye in line of duty?
NKWANTABISA, you are very right. But what can we do, whether we like it or not this is their Ghana, NDC/NPP have corrupted the system and who is there to save us from them. maybe a day will come when all these will be over.
this situation is so sad. she was assaulted cos she is poor. look at the way the police threw(booted) away her cloth and the disgust in his face whiles doing so. God almighty help us all not to be poor
I do not want to believe that you wanted the president to institute a committee to investigate this. I wish she was your relation. How can a police handle a woman who is not armed like this.
KWAME I SUPPORT YOU 100%
I BELIEVE THE POLICE WAS ABSOLUTELY WRONG but why do we always allow the media to direct our way of thinking. i am rather shocked at the way the president jumped into the matter without investigating first. has the president seen the CCTV images to come up with such a stand. The video on social media only shows part of the incident that happened. have we found out what the woman did.
There is no reason under the sun for any body to go through what this lady went through. This beating can't qualify under the application of 'minimum force'. This was a brutal, disproportionate attack on an unarmed citizen of Ghana
It serves the policeman right. The law should take it course. The policemen in uniform often act as if they are sacrosanct and absolved from the law. IGP let the spirit and letters of the whip errant security personnel who goofs with the very people they seek to protect. Sincerely, there are good men in the uniform, however, the bad nuts should be fished and disciplined without fear or favour.
Sad situation. Mother sorry OK. But please lets not to rush into dealing with this like the Major Mahama issue. Feel sad for the young policeman, anger is really a demon. I know the career of that young man is gone but hopefully his life is not destroyed as well. Unfortunately for him this isn't NDC/NPP so nobody is going to defend him. My advise is for his family to try all they can to get an out of court settlement by paying some monies to the victim. If you have anger issues maybe you shouldnt be a policeman. Oh well
RE:Raymond Afeletey, please when did you read the by-law of Ghana police and it says that the minimum force of a police is to smash umbrella on the head of your victim, slap he/she several times, drag her on the floor whiles having an Ak47 Raffle on your hip, handcuff,at your back and radio to call for assistance should in case the need arises.By the way google the three level of use of force and tell us which one does this policeman falls under.Thank YOU!!!!!
