Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli State and President of the National House of Chiefs has called on traditional leaders to rally support for the Ghana Card registration.
He said it was an "important exercise" to help streamline identification and verification towards effective business transactions in the country and needed the support of traditional rulers.
Togbe Afede who was addressing members of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs during a general meeting in Ho, said the Card which would soon become a pre-requisite for major transactions had long been anticipated, and charged chiefs and opinion leaders to encourage their people to "take it seriously".
He also urged local authorities to sensitise the citizenry on the need to prepare their birth certificates and other required documents to enable them to be registered.
Togbe Afede commended the Volta house for a positive balance sheet and promised to engage stakeholders on prompt payment of allocated funds.
Nana Alloh Soglo IV, Otekple of Likpe, and President of the Volta Regional House appealed to traditional authorities to ensure that births and deaths within their jurisdiction were registered.
He said the age-old custom that prevented chiefs from being registered at births or deaths was out-dated and only made it difficult to validate claims of succession.

Slash, I love your comment. Ndc don't have an option of second thought, their only thinking is how to get power and nothing else. They only think of things that will favour them and their party but for Ghana forget about it ! How were they able to secure the voters ID not birth certificate, passport or 2 citizens of this country? So if the same requirements are being asked what is the beef of the ndc? I'm glad Togbe Afede is not looking into things with political lens but Ghana. Anyone who behave like Asiedu Nketiah and Jallo is an enemy of Ghana and doesn't belong to this land. In any case, I don't blame Asiedu Nketiah to light Ghana into flames because his brother is a minister in Ivory Coast and for that guy Jallo in Ashaiman I don't really know if that name belong to the North, UW or UE but definitely not a southern name so of the two what will they lose if Ghana burns? This is the country we live in for ECOWAS nationals to dictate to us. The power and the impunity of these people which country in the whole Africa will tolerate that?somebody should tell me if Nigeria or South Africa! GHANA MUST ARISE & DEFEND OUR COUNTRY ! We can't allow some lazy people's love for power to destroy our country. Every Ghanaian must register for the Ghana Card for better transaction!
God bless you Togbe Afede. You are a wise king. Even if voters ID card is made one of the requirements not every citizen has it. There will still be a chunck of the the populace that don't have it. Especially those under the age of eighteen years at the time of last voters registration exercise Has Ndc thought about that?
WHEN WE HAVE REVERED TRADITIONAL RULERS WHO DISREGARD THEIR OWN INTEGRITY AND DOING THINGS JUST TO SATISFY THEIR GREEDY INTEREST THIS IS WHAT WE SEE. I THOUGHT HE WOULD COMMENTED ON THE REQUIREMENTS FOR REGISTRATION,BUT HE CHOSE TO KEEP MUTE. HOW MANY PEOPLE IN GHANA ESPECIALLY IN VOLTA AND NORTHERN GHANA HAVE BIRTH CERTIFICATES OR PASS PORTS. WE ALL AGREE IT IS A VERY GOOD EXERCISE, BUT THOSE AT THE HELM OF AFFAIRS SHOULD NOT BE OBLIVIOUS OF THE FACT WE ARE NOT AMERICA OR UK AND MAKE THESE REQUIREMENTS FOR REGISTRATION A STRICT JACKED ONE.
