The Akufo-Addo-led government will not be able to develop the country if it tries to pay all the debt left behind by the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Marfo has revealed.
According to Mr. Osafo Marfo, the current government inherited a heavily indebted economy which will take time to be fixed, hence any attempt to settle all the debt will affect the development agenda.
“We inherited poor economy and debt but we will not pay majority of NDC debt because if we try to pay all the NDC debt, Nana Addo will not be able do any development,” he said.
Speaking at the 25th Annual NPP’s Ashanti Regional Delegates’ Congress at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the Senior Minister said, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government is putting in much effort to turn the country’s fortune around by settling the debts.
The efforts include prosecution of corrupt officials who served under the previous Mahama-led administration because the country lost lot of revenue to corruption.
He said, government is preparing to deal with officials cited in scandalous activities.
“We are going through papers, after that majority of the NDC party corrupt officials will be prosecuted. We don’t want to lose any case in court for accusing NDC official as corrupt therefore we are looking into some of their contracts to get concrete evidence,” he revealed.
Meanwhile, Mr. Osafo Marfo has asked Ghanaians to have faith and exercise restrain as the NPP-led government works strenuously toward wealth creation.

The NDC has not been faithful and loyal to Ghanaians as far as the handling of the economy is concerned. When the NPP in opposition mentioned that the NHIS was collapsing the NDC vehemently challenged the asserion by mentioning that how can a scheme which is collapsing be having high enrollment figures. The never mentioned the debt profile of the scheme for the public to evaluate. During the vetting of the Presidents nominee for ministerial appointment, some members of the opposition on the Appointment Committee made it a point for nominees to 'agree' that the scheme is very viable. Now that the position of the Scheme is being made crystal clear for all the Opposition is asking Government to pay the accumulated debts they have left behind. Why did they not pay the debts contrary to the laws governing the scheme. I hear the former Minister of Health talking about arrangements they had put in place to clear the 'gangantuan' debts. Did he put this scheme in his handing over notes? Is the Opposition in Parliament aware of such a scheme 'planned' by the then Minister? IT IS NOW CRYSTAL CLEAR THAT THE SCHEME IS COLLAPSING NOT BECAUSE OF THE NUMBERS BUT BECAUSE OF THE UNPAID DEBTS.
Please when it comes to corruption, NO MERCY FOR THE CRIPPLE. Collect every Ghana Pesewa. That is why we VOTED HEAVILY FOR NPP and for that matter the President Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo.
