The commissioning of a polyclinic at Ajumako Sunkwa in the Central Region on Thursday turned chaotic when some irate supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) hurled stones at Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu, chiefs of the area, journalists and other guests at the event.
The timely intervention of some police officers saved the situation.
According to reports, the NDC hoodlums pelted the minister when he was about to officially commission the health facility.
They claimed the previous Mahama administration built the clinic and would not allow the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration to take the glory.
The irate hoodlums, who got out of hand, injured the cameraman from Multimedia Group in the process.
According to Seth Kwame Boateng, a reporter with the Multimedia Group, the irate NDC activists allegedly ignored pleas of their Member of Parliament (MP), Ato Forson, to allow the event to proceed.
He said the angry youth hurled stones at the health minister, chiefs of the area and other guests at the event.
Mr Agyeman Manu on Wednesday commissioned and handed over 10 auxiliary health facilities to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) in the region.
They include the 15-bed Bimpong Egya Polyclinic in TAM District, the 15-bed Akunfude Polyclinic and the 30-bed Biriwa Polyclinic.
Each of the health facility has a theatre, maternity ward, laboratory unit, pharmacy unit, injection and dressing rooms, among others.
The minister of health, in his speech, urged managers to ensure effective maintenance at the facilities.
He also implored staff to improve their services to the patients, among others.
The remaining seven health facilities at Narkwa, Etsii Sunkwa, Bisease, Jamra, Mankrong, Dawurampong and Potsin would be commissioned and handed over to GHS from 16-17 August, 2018.

Another ndc kuraseni,in any part of the world anything new needs to be commissioned before use! even stores are commissioned before use in civilized world, you see flags hanging and Opening sign attached around the building which signal it has been commissioned and will begin to work soon! Nkurasefuo ade3 3ya! I hope the minister neglect those nkurasefuo to suffer because of their st*pidity to vote Ato Forson to represent them in parliament. They should ignore them and let them find another facility to attend for medical care. If they travel miles to seek for medical care next time they will learn sense to choose between voting ndc hoodlums or voting for good governance. Nobody needs their apology but they should be ignored and wait for 50 years and over when ndc may be considered if they exist that time. Nkw*aseafuo!
so what is it with politicians and commissioning? can't a facility be used once its completed and tested? must everything be a photo opportunity? people need the facility but yet we'll wait for months on end for official commissioning before utilising the facility for what it was built. meanwhile people cover distances to access the same services provided by the facility waiting to be commissioned and in the process, some even lose their lives. no wonder you were stoned. next time, commence usage as soon as testing is completed. after all, it was built to used and not for ceremonial purposes.
