NPP National Organizer, Sammy Awuku has blamed management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for the recent chaos in the school which resulted in the damage of private and public properties by some agitated students.
According to Sammy Awuku, it is wrong for the University administration to impose rules that infringe upon the rights of the students.
Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Mr. Awuku stressed that University authorities cannot absolve themselves because they intensified the problems confronting the students as a result bad decision-making.
"Government got involved in the KNUST saga...to restore peace and order. There is nowhere in today’s world you will tell a University student to sleep at 10 pm and will obey without retaliating…provided there is a group assignment and group work they have to do and here is the case the student has to sleep at 10 pm, it’s very frustrating…How do you treat students in modern day Ghana as if they are kindergarten students? It was also believed that the SRC has no access to the students' account be it faculty dues or department dues…It was centralized in the University account only. How do u run a modern day university like this?, he questioned.
"It frowns on democracy. It frowns on human right. You cannot also micro-manage the University as if they are kindergarten students", he stressed.
He urged the student body to be bold and express their grievances to the Committee set up to resolve the conflict.

since when did govt realize such rules were imposed on the students. so govt also waited until students demonstrated over such rules before it came into the scene? with it unpopular decision to dissolve the governing council? in this case ll you admit that govt also failed. you people talk childishly because certain delegates have chosen you as party leaders. yooo we shall see. day in day out politicians such as awuku and Co tell us now we shouldn't allow any party to go two terms again. they come and do the same thing and at times worst things
infantile ***barred word***
u think have the power now so u talk anyhow, wait and see 2020
Sammy l am infact disappointed in you. If these students are not kids they would have behaved as adults and use appropriate channels to address their grievances and not the wanton destruction approach they took. People like you and Nana B encouraged them to misbehaved and destroy properties. Now who are the losers the lecturers or the students? The lecturers are being paid their salaries whiles on strike, meanwhile the students' colleagues in other schools are having lectures. If you are a parent and have your child education disrupted with this needless demonstration you will appreciate the need for negotiations. In any case who are you to tell management they have failed. What management experience do you have to measure management' performance. Is conversion of halls an infringement on students' right. what right has students got to tell management what to do. They are there for only 4 years and are done. When your govt was forcing members of the Governing Board (GB) to replace their members where they not also infringing on the rights of the GB. Please mature you are no longer a student.
