Eighteen aspirants have been disqualified by the National Parliamentary Appeals Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the party’s parliamentary primaries in orphan constituencies.
Two aspirants have also had their nominations referred to the National Executive Committee (NEC) for a substantive decision. The rest out of a total of 292 aspirants have consequently been cleared to contest the primaries.
These were disclosed by the Appeals Committee on Wednesday, when it submitted its report to the General Secretary, John Boadu.
The report of the Mac Manu-led Appeals Committee will be considered by NEC on Thursday, September 12
The General Secretary on Wednesday, August 21 inaugurated a nine-member Appeals Committee chaired by former National Chairman Peter Mac Manu to receive and resolve appeals from the work of the National Parliamentary Vetting Committee.
Mr Mac Manu indicated that the committee did a thorough work on the various petitions and appeals they received from disqualified aspirants in order to adequately dispense justice. On his part, the General Secretary thanked the members of the committee for their service to the party.
The report will be forwarded to NEC for ratification on Thursday, September 12. So far, 15 candidates will contest the partial primaries unopposed with 29 females to contest. The primaries will take place in constituencies held by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday, September 28.
A decision is expected to be taken by NEC at Thursday’s meeting on primaries for constituencies held by the party.
