The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) at a press conference led by its General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia said President Akufo-Addo’s statement on corruption showed ample proof of his state of denial.
According to him, "President Akufo-Addo must accept full responsibility for the unenviable accolade as the most corrupt President in Ghana’s history, which hangs around his neck and find out why it is so. First, accept it, and go and find out why are they putting it on me then you’re about solving the problem. He [President Akufo-Addo] believes, somehow, that flowery speeches and empty rhetoric delivered in an acquired accent is what convinces people that corruption is being fought”, the former MP said, adding: “It has been established beyond all reasonable doubt that corruption is a way of life for the President and his government”.
The NPP in reaction laughed at the fact that the NDC 'now have nothing to say'.
"The President has spoken clearly and eloquently, and I dare to say, that speaking eloquently also is a problem for the NDC. I don’t expect anything better than that, that the president speaks eloquently and that too is a problem for them and they call it acquired accent, that’s why we all went to school anyway.
We couldn’t have carried our grandfathers’ accent to modern-day politics” its General Secretary said at a counter Press conference
However, lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe, a member of the NDC said the acquired accent comment was just a joke.
