It was President Akufo-Addo’s decision to terminate the Power Distribution Services deal according to the Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Kweku Baako Jnr.
According to him, some members of the ruling government were not happy with the President’s decision because they feared termination will come with some consequences; nonetheless, he decided to put the interest of Ghanaians first.
"Within the government, it’s not everybody who was enthused about the option of termination because of the implications for the Ghanaian economy. Some thought Mr President let’s compromise; they felt a different option should have been pursued . . . ," he disclosed while contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM’s morning show 'Kokrokoo'.
According to him, some of these kingpins, "had an eye on 2020; (they felt) there might be an economic challenge prior to the election. The leader of this administration who is the President said no; if that is the consequences let it be so; he doesn’t believe the good people will refuse or fail to see other positive indicators. So this decision to terminate was driven by the President himself against the wishes of some of his colleagues."

Background
The government of Ghana has terminated its concession deal with Power Distribution Services Limited regarding the distribution of electricity in Ghana.
A letter dated 18th October, 2019 signed by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta said: “Following consultations with Government, we wish to emphasize that Government remains strongly committed to the Compact and to private sector participation in the Electricity Company of Ghana.”
“Secondly, the facts detailed below clearly justify the discontinuance of the current concession which, it should once again be emphasized, does not in any way diminish the Government of Ghana’s commitment to private sector participation in Ghana’s energy sector. Indeed, Government intends to see this PSP through in a manner that respects due process and fidelity to the relevant transaction documents and underlying Compact,” the letter said.

The president approved the PDS deal with all the ***barred word*** praises and now the Aggrement is cancelled due to fraud and Kweku Barko the ***barred word*** ***barred word*** with out even a certificate and a barren is saying what? DG PDS
Oh, folks! Why are you attacking the person of Kweku Baako but refusing to talk to the issue? Well, I must not need to think far to find out where you are coming from. It's so obvious to say you are dishonest NDC-folks. This is a typical NDC because it's a well-known fact that you just don't have the competence to speak intellectually to issues. You refrain from it, just that you just can't otherwise. The Party NDC is an aggregate of such attributes of dishonesty such that you see in Mr. Baako a liar. I rest my case, confidently.
A true definitions of a dishonest human being.
I am disappointed in Kweku Baako Jnr, and some of Ghanaian journalists, Infact they don’t have live for their country at all, How can a senior Jounalist like Kweku Baako can lie like this? Because you were paid so you can lie, You shall account for it on the judgement day, You are a Muslim fear Allah.. (intaku Allah)
In the absence of wise counsel, even renaming of institutions can be prioritized over roads as poor as the current state of Ghanaian roads.
Thanks Mr. President for been bold and true to your presidential pledge. We thank you for upholding the dignity and sovereignty of our motherland thru this decision. This patriotic act will be remembered by all right thinking Ghanaians in 2020 and by posterity eternally.
@***barred word*** Baako aka Mr. Know it all. The President APPROVED the initial PDS deal, so if it has turned out to be a fiasco then 1. What kind of due diligence was performed b4 approving the initial deal 2. From all indication or available information the PDS contract was terminated because some of your cronies felt they were cheated? Anyway if you've set your own criteria & failed to even meet it then it says a lot about this administration's competency
JUST ONE PLAYER, NEYMAR, COST PSG $200 MILLION TO PURCHASE. AND A WHOLE COUNTRY, GHANA, IS ON ITS KNEES BCOS OF COMMON $190 MILLION. OH POVERTY !!!!
This man is the down fall of NPP and Nana Addo. He is able to explain every mistake off and make NPP think they are on the right path. I am beginning to see that if NPP were to win the 2012 election, they couldn't have resolved the energy crises. Look at our roads! NPP would have put the blame for the energy crises on Mills. The party is just not bothered about the deplorable roads and they feel okay to blame the NDC. If parties are elected into power to blame others, then anybody could blame. How did Kuffour manage to bring MiDA; How were NDC 1 and II able to manage MiDA to merit the second compact. What has changed that a party elected to power on the ticket of competence could not take us through Compact 2 en-route to compact 3. Please lets tell ourselves the truth
Had this been NDC, this same Kweku Baako would have taken them to the slaughter. Pure hypocrisy. There is both financial and reputational loss here and we may even lose the regional compact of 1 billion dollars.
