Business mogul Alhaji Asoma Banda has called on Parliament to pass a law which will make it compulsory for public sector workers to plan for their retirement years before they are due for retirement.
Alhaji Banda said one of the reasons why many of the youth are unable to get jobs in the public sector is because many of the workers stay on after they are due for retirement.
The trend, he believes, makes it impossible for the youth to gain employment in the public sector. According to the owner of Antrak Air, many of such people stay on because they fail to plan for their retirement.
We are producing enough brains in this country, I am a chancellor of a university so I know the efforts we are putting to educate our students, but [when] they come out, no work, he said.
People will work and for 60 years, they have not planned for their retirement and when they retire they want a contract. How then can our youth get a job? Where do they go, they will just end up selling dog chains on the streets.
He urged Parliament to make it compulsory for Ghanaians, after minimum of 10 years of employment, to start planning for a secure retirement, which will subliminally create jobs for the upcoming youth.
