Host of Good Evening Ghana on Metro TV, Paul Adom Otchere, has criticized Ghanaian governments for destroying Ghanaian businesses and killing entrepreneurship in the country, singling out former President Rawlings as one who destroyed more Ghanaian businesses for no justifiable reason.
Using how Nigerian governments have supported Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man by some ranking, he lamented how the Rawlings regime for fear of being ousted from power, “smashed every Ghanaian business away.”
“Ghana needs only two Dangotes to survive. We have had about thirty of them. [But] government after government, they throw them away, starting from Rawlings. And he is the guiltiest on this matter. JJ Rawlings is the most guilty of this thing… [He] pulled down every Ghanaian business because you are afraid that they’re too strong to take you out of power,” he lashed out on his show.
He made the comments in support of those of Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, Presiding Archbishop and General Overseer of the Action Chapel International ministry, who had claimed earlier that successive governments preferred to support foreigners to succeed while pulling down fellow Ghanaians who venture into business or entrepreneurship.
Adom Otchere also used the editorial segment of the programme to advice governments to focus on holding individuals responsible for any infractions rather than destroying or collapsing the business entity involved.
He then accused some Ghanaians of seeking to pull the owner of Zoomlion Ghana Limited Joseph Siaw Adjapong down.
Following the revocation of licenses of many financial institutions by the Bank of Ghana because of alleged violations of the law, many Ghanaians have criticized the tendency of governments to destroy what is Ghanaian while helping foreigners to thrive in the business and entrepreneurship space.

this nothing but the truth. jj rawlings and his ewe henchmen like tsatsu tsikata and kofi awonoor were only interested in bringing down successful akan businesses, tata brewery, ba mensah's pionner tobacco, appiah menka;s apino soap etc. and when all were gone rawlings and his wife decided to buy cheaply or usurp nsawam canneries but ended up running to the ground - bankrupt. now he turns round to accuse others of corruption. what moral right has rawlings got to point fingers at other people? posterity is waiting for him and ***barred word*** minded henchmen who perpetrated such acts against the good people of ghana. unfortunately many of these bad people have already died.
Rawlings made sure to destroy Businesses, and Individuals who he believed were big and rich enough to use their money to challenge his authority. By doing so, Rawlings he also broke the Ghanaman's confidence to setup such big businesses and so growing Ghanaian never saw such big companies in order to learn from and have confidence that they too can build such businesses... Those you had tasted money suddenly had to work in Public Institutions seeking to make enough to support their taste but the salary was not enough to support the lifestyle so they started taking from the companies. Politicians, their families, and cohorts with little education were employed on the basis of their connections, not competence and corruption became official. That is how come Ghanaman used corrupt tendencies to destroy many state enterprises... Black star line - Ghanas own Shipping line Ghana Airways - Ghanas own airline Ghana Bauxite - Gone Ghana Jute - Gone GNTC - Gone GIHOC - Now majority-owned by a political party Ghana Railway - Almost gone Bonsa Tyres - Gone TATA Brewery - Gone Neoplan Bus Company - Bus fabrication Company Akwatia Diamonds - Gone Lots Timber Companies - All Gone Nsawam Cannery - Gone to 31st December and cohorts Lots Minings Companies - All Gone And Many many other…. ... The youth now have little or no examples of successful Ghanaian businesses to inspire them. What we now have and see are politicians who have neither worked nor have families with the financial muscle to support their suddenly acquired mansions, cars and fat bank accounts; Pastors who flaunt cars, mansions and lifestyle which are clearly beyond their means or the collective means of their congregations. Youths with questionable richness flaunting on social media. Bankers and Bank directors who will loot and steal from their own banks, customers, and clients while the regulators (those whose work it is to protect the customers) also benefit from the largesse (Capital bank, Beige capital etc). Regulated Banks and savings companies who are unable to pay back their customers own money upon request but non-bank companies who are able to timely pay their investors are brought down eg. menzgold. See, we now seem not to even have laws to properly segment the various business eco-systems. (Laws are good if they are used lawfully). Consider, Telecommunications company who offer his own customers money as loans to the same customers eg. MOMO, while banks and regulators seem to find nothing wrong with this practice. A telco is a telco not a money transfer or loan issuing company. Why not allow other companies to provide the money transfer services, the quick loan service; so that other people can also build wealth? Remember, banks are in partnership with western union, remit etc. Why should one company be left to become soooo big and concentrate wealth only among its owners? ... so there are No proper examples for well-meaning young Ghanaman to follow. The government is trying to bring certain things in perspective. Example, the focus on Agriculture because truly it is only in agriculture that we have competitive advantage over other nations because if for nothing, we can have organic agri produce. This can also be a major alternative earnings for the Country. Because truth be told, Ghana cannot compete with China in manufacturing, US in Technological Advancement, Russia for Military, Israel etc but we have great land for organic produce. Exchange bauxite for road projects, yet other governments wanted to handed over the same bauxite mass to a private company who would never ever use the money to build roads. So let us take a second look at Paul Adom's views and the circumstances that surround us today. He who has ears...
