Former Finance Minister Dr Kwabena Duffuor has said that the rate of inflation will drop below 9 percent within two years of his presidency if he is elected as flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and later as president of Ghana in the 2024 general elections.
Currently, the inflation rate for March 2023 is 45 percent as announced by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) on Wednesday, April 12.
But Dr Duffuor promised to bring it down after stating that he has a track record of manning the finances of the nation well.
The former Governor of the Bank of Ghana touted his credentials after indicating that when he was leaving the Finance Ministry as the sector Minister following his appointment by the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills, the debt of the country was GHS35 billion.
However, he said, it is currently GHS600 billion.
Addressing delegates of the NDC as part of his campaign to be elected flagbearer of the NDC, the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana said “Ghana’s debt is currently about GHS600 billion when I was leaving the Finance Ministry it was only GHS35billion.”
NDC suspends Allotey Jacobs
“This is frightening,” he added
He added “When it comes to the economy, actions speak louder than words. My record speaks for itself and it is clear that I have the experience and vision to fix the economy within two years.
“With my leadership, we will create jobs, stabilize the economy, and ensure that our country’s development is on the right track. Inflation will drop further to below 9 per cent, within 31 months. Let’s work together towards a better future for all Ghanaians.”

Hahahaaaa, Ghana's so called politicians paaaa, am surprised they have still not come to the realization that the citizens know them in and out. You grew up with people in the community, you have school mates, classmates, friends, people know who your parents were so we know you all. I some trusted you when you speak ie politicians in general. Unfortunately having listened and witnessed the 2 major parties win power one is tempted to believe that talk is very cheap, one is tempted to believe that what comes out of their mouth is not same from the bottom of their hearts, one is tempted to believe that political position in Ghana is the " Asante Goldfields Corporation" of politicians. They come to mine their share and go away and the circle continues. The immediate past minority leader in parliament said recently that the people of Ghana are beginning to lose trust in politicians and that it was dangerous for the future of the country. Haruna had good reasons for saying that, he did not speak for speaking sake. When the people who elected you begin to realize that you represent nobody but yourself they will lose confidence in you. This is what is happening in Ghana. The trust level for any single politician is near zero. People lie through their months when they were in opposition. On Winning power and given ministerial positions they appear before the appointments committee and when asked to defend what they said whilst in opposition they respond by saying " oh, it was political talk " meaning politics means to tell lies because you want power. How then do you expect the ordinary man in the street to trust you, highly impossible
Talk is cheap. Are you a magician? Tell us what you will do.
