About 307 students in the Bawku Municipality from the green track of the double track system of the free Senior High School programme are receiving free extra classes to help them cover the school syllabus.
Parents of the students arranged and organized the classes for the students who are the first batch of the double track system and are presently on vacation.
Mr Mumuni Faisal Basnire, the Bawku Central Constituency Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who championed the idea, said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Bawku, that the move was to complement government’s effort at providing good education for students.
Mr Basnire urged all stakeholders including parents to support government in the implementation of the policies on education which would afford everyone quality, accessible and inclusive education.
He said the free Senior High School programme and its double track system should not be politicized because it includes everyone in the educational system and gave all school going age children access to quality education.
Mr Basnire reminded all about the importance of education in the country’s move to develop, and called on other towns and communities to emulate same to support the students.
Hajia Hawa Ninchemah, the Bawku Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), commended the Assembly for supporting teachers and other persons who volunteered to teach the students.
Hajia Ninchemah said the assembly had prioritized education and was committed to uplifting the low standard of education in the area.
She called on people in the area to champion the educational policies of government as they were pragmatic ones that can help the children develop.

A very brilliant initiative I urge all constituencies to emulate the idea.
