The leadership of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT)informs the general public and indeed all teachers that from today 5th September, 2019 they have decided to lay down their tools.
According to the NAGRAT, all teachers in schools that have already reopened should lay down their tools and stay out of school.
Also those that are yet to reopen, must stay out of the schools when school reopens.
"We call on all our teachers to be steadfast in this industrial action," President of NAGRAT, Eric Angel Carbonu said at a press conference held at the NAGRAT Lyceum.
Spewing out their grievances, he said the newly introduced Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) acquired by the Public Services Commission has brought a lot of problems and pains to the Ghanaian Teacher, in several areas of their work.
He said Promotion letters, Additional responsibilities, Difficulty in reinstating Teachers, Delay in promotion interview and transfers are all problems facing the Ghanaian Teacher due to the introduction of this Human Resource Management Information System.
In reference to delayed salary arrears, he noted taht, "It looks like the Government has suspended its obligation of paying salary arrears. Yet, day in day out, new arrears are being created. The promotion issues and salary upgrade problems, mentioned earlier, have created another batch of salary arrears."
They therefore call on the Public Services Commission to remove the obstacles it has placed on the path of the Ghana Education Service.

This strike action is not a surprise to me because this is not the first time the leadership of NAGRAT is doing this to the NPP gov't. A similar thing happened under Prez. Kuffuor's regime and many NAGRAT teachers lost their one or two months salaries, while the leadership was taking fat allowances from our dues and other contributions to the Association. (Kwame Alorvi's scheme) There are these few questions that I will like NAGRAT leaders to help us with the answers: 1. Why should all its members go on strike on the basis of an administrative system challenges (HRMIS) to some few members. 2. Will they use our accumulated dues, which they (NAGRAT Leaders) are spending, without any recourse to the plight of the poor NAGRAT teacher, pay the teachers on strike when the gov.t stops paying them salaries? Because I don't think you expect to take salaries when on strike. 3. Were all arrears owed to teachers paid off under previous gov't (NDC)? And that, what we have now is created solely by the current NPP gov't? if the answer is no, then I want to ask again, where was NAGRAT by then? 4. What does NAGRAT do with members' contribution? 5. And again, where is Kwame Alorvi, now? For me, I feel so regret for moving from GNAT to NAGRAT in the inception of the latter. Little did I know or expect that, that was going to be a formation of another Teachers' association whose main aim is to always work a particular political party in gov't. My dear colleague teachers, in as much as I agree with you that conditions are not as expect, don't let us be used by some few hypocrites to champion their own personal interest. Let us call on our NAGRAT leaders to put in place proper measures to ensure that, our contributions give us better packages and not just using as instruments against certain specific gov'ts.
Strike is a legitimate right of every worker Does employers have to pay workers whilst they are on strike? Does workers think it's fair to collect salaries/wages even though they have withdrawn their services?
NAGRAT or whatever you call yourself. Stop using our children as bargaining tools to fight the government. Nobody forced you to be a teacher. There are better jobs out there if you think you're not being treated well.Resign and leave others who are willing to work to do so. No worker in Ghana is satisfied with his salary. What kind of ***barred word*** is that.
VERY SOON NAGRAT WILL BE INSULTED BY NPP COMMUNNICATERS FOR CALLING STRIKE BCOS IT WILL TARNISH THE IMAGE OF AKUFO ADO GOV.
This NAGRAT is operating under the guise of a teachers'union but infact doing dirty job of JDM. They must be stopped before they wreck havoc on the economy.
Well NAGRAT. I only want you to rather justify your Strike Action to some of us Ghanaians, that the timing of it, and by that, your realm aim for this strike action is not to SABOTGE the 3rd Academic Year re-opening of the Free SHS. Otherwise, why should the Graduate Teachers who do not have any issues with the HR system also be on strike and be paid their salaries. Are we to believe that almost all the NAGRAT members have issues with the HR System? What a demonstration of BAD FAITH with the timing of your so-called Strike.
Abu, please speak to the issue under which you have commente. Don't set your own question.
Are you saying under 8 years of NDC no labour union went on strike? and if NDC SHOULD WIN 2020 there will be no strikes? It is people like you that everybody needs to be educated. So you cant ***barred word*** all of us.
NPP IS UNDER SEVERE CURSE FOR LYING TO GHANAIAN BY AKUFO ADO IN 2016 CAMPAIGN THAT GHANAIAN SHOULD TRY HIM AS PRESIDENT TO PROTECT PUBLIC PURSE IN FACT, WHAT ARE WE SEEING TODAY? AKUFO ADO IS TOTALLY CORRUPT SINCE HE CAN APPOINT HIS EX-WIFE FOR AMBASADORAL POSITION. ALSO SINCE HIS APPOINTEES ARE CORRUPT, AKUFO ADO IS EQUAL AS SAME. LASTLY KEN OFORI ATTA AND ANYBODY FROM NPP WHO KNOWS CLOSING DOWN OF MENZGOLD WILL SURELY GET PUNISH BY GOD WITH STROKE.
