The government has not made a pronouncement on the re-opening of schools, Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has said.
Reacting to media reports which suggested that schools would be re-opened soon, the Minister described the reports as inaccurate since consultations on what it will take to re-open schools are ongoing.
He said: "Government is not saying that schools are to re-open soon, what we are saying is that consultations on what it takes to re-open schools is what we are currently engaged in"
Protest
It will be recalled that the pre-tertiary Education Unions warned against any plans by the Ghana Education Service to reopen schools.
According to the unions, they would not subscribe to the re-opening of the schools should President Akufo-Addo decide not to extend the 31st May, 2020 deadline for the ban on prescribed public and social gatherings to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, and go ahead to order the re-opening of the schools.
The groups insist that conditions are not rife for the safe reopening of schools given that the new coronavirus infection spread remain “very exponential” and “still very much horizontal” in the country.

And you are not going to have those discussions forever so after those discussions what next? These people think they are smart or that we are stupppiiiiid! Because you get big head does not mean you have big brains so stop trying to spin us! We know what the President is coming to say already but what we will not allow is you sacrificing the safety of our kids on the altar of your political fortunes! Whilst we pay taxes which you people use to live opulent lifestyles and therefore can practise social-distancing, the majority of Ghanaians can't afford that and it is definitely impossible to enforce social-distancing in our schools! The other day we saw Bawumia and his family at breakfast and they were able to afford practising social distancing even at breakfast; a luxury far beyond the dreams of most Ghanaians. And your kids will be driven by V8s which are payed for and fueled by our tax money ,to elite schools where social-distancing can be practiced!
Waadan no !!!! If you like , say odokono.
