Dr Kwadwo Sarbeng, an obstetrician gynaecologist at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), has cautioned women against inserting foreign materials in their vaginas, indicating that they risk infertility.
According him, the vagina is a very delicate organ and only suitable for the penis during sexual intercourse, disclosing that it is absurd for women to use all manner of fluids with the hope of tightening their vaginas.
“They are rather courting various forms of ailments for themselves. In some cases, these result in inflammation leading to serious medical conditions that require surgery,” he stated.
On the Ultimate Breakfast Show hosted by Lantam Papanko, Dr Kwadwo Sarbeng advised parents against inserting ground ginger and pepper in the vaginas of their children in the name of punishment, explaining that they are only endangering the lives of the youngsters.
“These acts can lead to the bacterial and other infections in the vaginas which cause discharge. We must try as much as possible to discourage inserting herbs and other unapproved drugs in the vagina. If you have any problem, resort to the hospital for evaluation and advice,” he added.
