Deputy Minister for Health, Dr Bernard Okoe-Boye has said the introduction of spot fines for persons who defy the directive of wearing facemask as a preventive measure for the spread of the coronavirus will help to serve as a deterrent to others and promote compliance.
In spite of the government’s directive making it mandatory for the wearing of nose masks, some persons are hesitant in wearing the mask under the guise of having difficulties in breathing.
But Dr Okoe-Boye says the masks have proven to be very effective in containing the spread of the virus.
He said: “If you have a thousand people who are not wearing masks it’s because people assume that if you don’t wear it, it comes with no consequences. If you ask one person to pay GHS50 or GHS100 and it is known that someone was charged GHS100 for not wearing the mask people will fall in line.
“There is a difference between knowledge acquisition and behavioral change. When you see someone not wearing the mask it doesn’t mean he hasn’t been informed that wearing the mask is good for you. Humans beings by nature because we exercise freedom, sometimes we decide to do what we like and that is why its important to have laws…”

@ Alget, are u really serious? Government does not provide clothes for citizens to wear, but if you dont wear clothes in public, the government has the right to charge you. we should not be ***barred word***. We should act as humans where is not everything that we should be instructed to do. The precaution taken is for our own good.
How come such edeots get gov appointments?
When you going to opposition saaaaaaa. They say when the gods want to kill you, they first make you mad. You haven't provided any masks for anyone to wear that the person has refused, so why do you fine someone who is not wearing masks. If you have given the masks for free and the person is not wearing then you have the right to fine him. Until you distribute free masks you don't have the right to force people to wear masks. Fining people for failing to wear masks alone can send you to opposition.
Fines again??? Covid too you want to benefit from it???? Aaaaaaaabbbbaaaa!!! You don't feel our distress??? Go to HELL!!
