The B.I.D. quality symbol can be found in 178 countries across the world, creating a firm ground for implementation of integral quality processes through the technology and procedures of the QC100 model of Total Quality Management system.
Kuapa Kokoo was recognized for its strong commitment to quality, leadership, technology and innovation. Kuapas selection was based on its success story in Ghana and the business world.
Mrs Christiana Ohene Agyare, President of Kuapa Kokoo Farmers Union (KKFU) received the CQE Gold award on behalf of Kuapa. Mrs Ohene Agyare was accompanied to the ceremony by Mr Kwame Owusu the Certification and Compliance Manager of Kuapa.
Kuapa Kokoo is a cocoa farmers' cooperative organisation, established in Ghana in 1993. It was formed following the Ghanaian government's liberalisation of internal cocoa marketing in 1992, which, farmers feared, would lead to the entry of private companies into the market with whom they would be unable to compete.
The organisation is often cited as a success story in the field of fair trade, its products being used in many Fairtrade-labelled products. It is the largest cooperative in Ghana, and counts 45,000 cocoa growers as members.
In 2011, Kuapa Kokoo was honoured by His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Ashanti Business Excellence Awards for its contribution to the socio-economic development of farmers and operational communities.
