President John Dramani Mahama has asked Parliament to consider a review of the emoluments approved for the Executive arm of government.
A statement signed by the Secretary to the President, J. K. Bebaako Mensah, stated that President Mahama has ordered the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning to withhold authorization for payment of any new emoluments for the executive.
Parliament voted to raise the consolidated monthly pay of the President to about GhC12, 000 while the vice President's pay has been raised to about GhC 10,500.
Per last Wednesdays vote, Ministers of State and their deputies are to earn between GhC 8,000 and GhC 9000.
The Presidents order for the review by the legislature under Article 71 of the Constitution is to align more realistically with the original recommendations by the Professor Ewuraama Addy Committee.
