President Mahama has announced that the 'John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Research Library' when completed, will encourage effective research to inform major policies in the economy.
Speaking at a ceremony to lay the foundation for the construction of the Library as part of the activities to commemorate the first anniversary of the demise of the former President, President Mahama said the memorial library will embody the collective heritage of Late President Mills who was an astute academician.
The ideals and values of President Mills cannot be immortalized any better than providing a platform for the pursuit of knowledge through research and scholarly collaboration.
The library will have a museum that will hold a collection of artifacts that tell the story of the life of the late President and a research centre that will provide opportunities for researchers and scholars from all over the world to come to research into issues of governance.
The Library when completed will be affiliated to the University of Cape Coast.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Airtel Ghana, Kwame Pianim also pledged the commitment of the Telecom industry to ensure the successful completion of the Atta Mills Memorial Library.
We are sponsoring this project because the telecom industry owes a lot to this government.
The climax of the week-long commemoration is on Sunday where a church service will be held at the Robert Mensah stadium in Cape Coast.
The Planning Committee will then be expected to release an overall expenditure for the celebrations.
