The TUC Secretary General, Kofi Asamoah says Organized Labour will never accept government's moratorium on public sector wages for 2014.
Speaking to Radio Ghana on the Union's position, Mr. Asamoah said the high rate of inflation, increase in VAT and the high cost of utilities have eroded the value of public sector wages.
As such any attempt by the Finance Ministry to stall negotiations or insist on a moratorium would be at government's own peril.
Reacting to the TUC`s position, the Minister of State at the
Presidency in charge of Finance and Allied Institutions, Fiifi Kwetey
said the Finance Minister`s call for moratorium on Public Sector salaries for 2014 was not a stab in the back of members of organised labour and workers.
He told Radio Ghana that Mr. Tekper was only making a passionate appeal to organised labour to support government
to improve on the economy.
He therefore called on the labour unions not to misconstrue the appeal, but support it as a sacrifice for the
good of mother Ghana.
