Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has lashed out at some chiefs in the Ashanti region who have declared their support for some presidential candidates.
According to him, any chief who wants to engage in partisan politics must first abdicate before doing so.
Addressing the last session of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs for this year in Kumasi on Wednesday, Otumfuo warned that no chief under his supervision would be allowed to meddle in politics.
The Asantehene said it is wrong for chiefs to openly endorse leaders of the various political parties considering the sensitive positions they occupy in society.
“If you want to engage in politics, then I will advise you to vacate your stools. Leaders of the various political parties visit you at your various palaces and may give you gifts, but do not be swayed by the gifts and start endorsing them because that is not the work of chiefs,” he said.
His comments come after some 58 chiefs in the Ashanti region reportedly declared their support for flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo after he stormed the region to campaign.

Kofii Adams does not pick calls even if you have sometime important to share with him. This is what happened and NPP lost the last two elections, complicence.
Nana don't worry yourself they would not listen. After all declaration does not win power. Manama is a chosen man of God.
Get the English the honorable king Solomon is speaking. He did not say you cannot have political inclinations but do not come out like the politicians do. King Solomon the wisest king to be understood this more. Solomon made alliances with all the nations around which could have engaged him at war. So are our chiefs to be. You are the landowners and therefore all political parties would have to pay homage to you when they come to your territory. Receive them warmly, give them water to drink, accept their gifts, give them your blessings and wish them well but do not openly declare support for them. Wompeh oyi, wo peh dien?
Otumfuo KWEKU DUA !!!!!!! ; PLEASE stop this cheap arrogance and stop disgracing Ashanti people because you should know better ; Ashanteman does not belong to you and the people are not your serfs ; people do politics in different ways ; you are engaged in politics yourself ; you are NDC everybody knows that ; what about dancing with Jon Mahama at Manhyia palace with 'YENTIE OBIRIA' song ; were you not doing politics ; you just a custodian of the stool it not your personal property ;IGNORNT CHIEF !!!!!!!!!!; a uless CHief who lived in London and learnt NOTHING !!!!!!!
Nana, well said but you must be the first to abdicate your stool because we are all witnesses to your open political biasness towards the NDC to the extent that one of them (JDM or Ibrahim) has impregnated your married daughter. For your chiefs to stop their political endorsements, ask them also to return all the V8s they received from your close pall JDM. Failure to do so means that they have to let the status quo remain.
Who are you? You are behind time. Everybody has a political right to make any political declaration. Just stay in your kingdom and watch!
