The Accra Regional Police Command is investigating assault allegations against the Member of Parliament for Odododiodio and Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye.
The Public Relations Officer of the Police, Afia Tenge said the minister will be questioned over the allegations.
There was violent confrontation Tuesday night between supporters of the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress shortly after a mammoth rally had been held in the constituency by the opposition party.
A day later the chaos deteriorated somewhat when the Sports Minister was alleged to have assaulted his opponent, Nii Lantey Bannerman.
The NPP aspirant claimed he was followed in a vehicle by the minister who later accosted him and punched him in the face.
Myjoyonline.com cannot independently confirm that claim and the Minister has been unavailable for comment.
However, the police on Wednesday arrested three New Patriotic Party supporters who were alleged to have been part of the skirmishes on Tuesday.
Hundreds of supporters besieged the James Town police, demanding the release of the three suspects.
There was police reinforcement armed to the teeth and wearing crowd control gears in an attempt to maintain law and order.
Speaking to Joy News, Police PRO Afia Tenge said the three suspects remanded had sustained varying degrees of injuries but were treated on remand.
She said the police will not countenance any acts of lawlessness from anybody in the constituency.
“There were also reports about the Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Lante Vanderpuye and the police are making efforts to get him to find out about his alleged involvement,” she said.
She said given the fact that Odododiodio is one of the hotspots as far as elections are concerned, the police will try as much as possible to ensure peace in the area.

I AM NOT CONDONING THE CONDUCT OF THE MINISTER BUT WISH TO POINT OUT THE UNDERLYING CAUSE. THE NPP HELD A RALLY THEN PROCEEDED TO DO AN UNAPPROVED MARCH KNOWING VERY WELL THAT OTHER POLITICAL PARTIES HAVE A RALLY IN THE AREA. AS EXPECTED WHEN THIS MARCH WITHOUT POLICE ESCORT GOT TO THE OTHER PARTIES RALLY GROUNDS THERE WAS A CONFRONTATION. THE POLICE SHOULD NOT ACCEPT THE EXCUSE OF POLITICAL PARTIES THAT THEY CAN'T CONTROL ALL THEIR MEMBERS
This is what we always complain about NDC ORDER FROM THE ABOVE corrupt Ghana police. They're so one sided, they see no wrong doing by NDC members. It happened in Tamale, Bawku, Wa, Abobloshie and now Accra. Anytime there is a confrontation between NDC and NPP, these NDC corrupt police always find a way to arrest NPP members whether they are the victims or not. We all saw what happened during the Cheriponi election, when an NDC operative parading as a national security guard opened fire on NPP supporters on a broad day light. The guy was clearly identified. But up till now, nothing has come out of it. It happened in Koforidua and Atiwa; NPP supporters were assaulted by Baba Jamal and his gang of tags but the police find a cause to arrest the victims. We can't build a nation like this whereby every decision is made through a political lens. The police must be fair, follow the laws of the land and let the chips fall where they may fall. We need brave men and women to lead our police force; leaders who will not succumb to the whims and unlawful orders from the corrupt crim1nal incompetent ***barred word*** parading as politician to fairly enforce the laws of the land to build a just society to prevent unnecessary conflicts. Here we go again; an MP and a minister is accused of assult but our ORDER FROM THE ABOVE Ghana police find it necessary to arrest NPP members. God save Ghana.
Massa ; the police should arrest this fisherman who discharges is faeces on ACCRA beach everymorning and luck him up immediately ; how can the police allow NI Lante who thinks he is gangster and owns Accra to have his own army of uneducated uless ediots who follow him around and will not find something better to do in life ; tghis guy should be voted out on Dec 7th 2016 ; A ULESS AILESS GA BOY !!!!!!!!
lead by the president, whoever in his party does this like this is promoted. this violent guy think he is above the law. some peoples days are numbered including the president. we shall show them the way and must be ready to wear the top and short blue dresses because of their ***barred word*** spree. Theives lead by the president.
This man is a very stuuupppid and ***barred word*** man to our tribe, we will vote for bannerman so start crying per ur actions no youth will vote for a violent leader like u
I dont know if some people are above the law or what, the police must act on issues and address as it is suppose to be done cos they have the power, minister or whatever are all not above the law, his actions shows what he is capable of doing to rig the election at odododiodio but it wont work cos he will go back to his roots and fight for his part in his dads house
this guy dey ***barred word*** for the odododiodo there too much. This nobody because of politics dey toy with peoples life. A time will come when Somebody go sort am out if the police don't take any action Last elections 2012 he and his thugs behaved in the same manner with the police standing by.
If the police does not sit up and act professionally we are doomed because NDC having been getting away with acts of violence for far too long and they turn around and tag NPP as been a violent party. One can lost count of the numerous acts of violence perpetuated by NDC where the police has turned a blind eye. It happened in Akwatia, Chereponi, Agblgbloshie, Kantamanto and the list goes on. Even one cannot express a change sign as it happened just last week in Ashanti region. Elections are around the corner and God knows what they have on planned to do.
Look at his phace, always using voile... nce to win elections!
This idi0t is the most undisciplined and lawless minister I have ever known. He should know that his days are numbered
