The former President of Ga-Dangme Traditional Council Dr K.B Asante has entreated beleaguered Gbese Mantse Nii Ayi-Bonte II to vacate his throne honourably to avoid being embarrassed by a section of the public especially the kingmakers.
The traditional ruler, prior to the December 7 polls vowed that he will relinquish his stool if outgoing President John Dramani Mahama loses the elections bearing in mind that traditional authorities are not supposed to engage in partisan politics.
The Chief of the Ga Traditional Area has been under pressure to abdicate his seat as he has pledged.
Speaking on Abusua FM’s Abusua Nkommo hosted by Kwame Adinkrah, he condemned the comment made by the traditional ruler who has been given 7-day ultimatum describing it ‘unfortunate’.
He admonished aggrieved kingmakers and subordinates to exercise restraint by going through the right channels to avoid any untoward.
‘I think its a very unfortunate development, the Gbese Mantse shouldn’t have said what I hear he said before the elections. He did say that he will not lead his people if what he said comes true and it has happened, it means he has no confidence in the people and the people too do not have confidence in him. So in my view, he should abdicate his position in a dignified way.
He should not wait for some people to ask for his destoolment and in my view these elders should also not have publicly announced the destoolment. They should have gone through the traditional process, there are other people who are involved in enstooling the chief, they should get all the majority and then the chief leaves.
If he doesn’t leave, they should go through traditional or unpleasant methods to destool him,’ he said.
He suggested that the Gbese Mantse be forgiven to lead his people if he apologises.
‘If the kingmakers accepts his apology, the Gbese Mantse should be forgiven and made to stay,’ he submitted.
Dr Asante entreated chiefs to help improve the educational sector by assisting women to go through education and desist from engaging in partisan politics.

The Chief simply goofed and there is no justification for his unguided utterances. Whether he swore on a deity or the stool is neither here no there. As a Chief, his words carry weight and he shouldn't be enticed into this arena of haughty talks or playing to the gallery. If he is really a man of his words, he should abdicate quietly. Some of his subjects are trying to justify his words, but they should know we all heard him clearly and nobody should attempt to interpret what he said to anybody. I wish him the best in his moment of confusion.
The chief should do the honorable thing. Words carry meaning and let it not be said that even the words of a chief is meaningless. he should have abdicated by now and should not apologise. the people should not accept any apology. he has slighted his authority in the eyes of his subjects and must accordingly step aside. Even though it has been the unspoken policy of the NPP denigrate chiefs to make Asantehene strong, (eg Ya Na and Ga Mantse) clearly, the NPP has no hand in this plus Akuffo has no business exalting Asantehene as he is not Asante himself.
THE GBESSE CHIEF MADE HIS PRONOUNCEMENT WITHOUT SWEARING TO THE THRONE OR ANY DEITY. THE SPIRITUAL IMPLICATION IS THAT HE CANNOT BE DIS-STOOL BECAUSE NO DEITY OR SPIRIT HAS COVENANT IT. HE CAN BE CHARGED BY HIS KING MAKERS GOATS,SCHNAPPS,COW ETC FOR DISREGARDING THE AUTHORITY THAT HE HAS SWORN TO. MAYBE NDC PROMISE HIM MOUTH-WATERING SOMETHING THAT HE THING HAS MORE VALUE THAN THE CHIEF THING. HE WOULD HAVE STEP DOWN VOLUNTARILY FOR A GOV'T POSITION IF NDC WIN AND BRAG ABOUT IT.AFTER ALL, THERE IS NOTHING TO LOOSE.
Seriously i think that we should treat him as ignoramus and let him be so he lives with that shame as a chief for the rest of his life. Touching him will make him important, besides some sections will say its Nana Akuffo Addo who disstooled him as a chief just like mahama bleated in the campaign.Lets ignore him cause there are more important things to work out as a nation.
Why are Ghanaians fond of this apologise, forgive and give a chance. Its very bad character of Ghanaians, its the reason why there is so much lawlessness and indiscipline in the country.People deliberately break the law and all they have to do is beg or apologise. The chief knew what he was saying so why this suggestion of him coming out to apologise.
To heir is human and to forgive is divine, Nii should be forgiven if he apologise publicly. This should serve as a precedent to our traditional ruler and more specifically the selfish ones.
Mr K.B. Asante has no saw. He has never been a president of the Ga-Traditional Council.
How can you make such an irresponsible statement, See where you were hidden, rat hole, Tweaaaaa Mantsey
Gbese Mantse does not deserve to be a chief. Chiefs are supposed to be wise. An unwisee chief has no place in ruling for it requires wisdom to rule. Thant is why Solomon asked wisdom from God as a King. Since the utterances of Gbese Mantse indicate clearly that he made unwisee statement he has no bossiness to rule.
