Chief of Atibie in the Kwahu South District in the Eastern Region Barimah Kwame Asante Betiani II has threatened to block the road that links the town to the paragliding site during the Easter Festivities, if government fails to fix the road which is in a poor state.
According to him the dusty nature of the road leaves the town inundated with dust making life uncomfortable whenever the festival is on, due to the large number of patrons (Ghanaians and foreigners) who troop to the venue to witness or participate in the festival.
This is not the first time the Chief has threatened to stop the festival, he did same last year but the event took place. He is however bent on carrying out his threat this year if the status quo remains.
In an interview with Kasapa News, Barimah Kwame Asante Betiani II, stated that as has been the ritual, the District Assembly and the Ghana Tourist Authority every year only use trips of sand to level the erosion plagued road, weeks to the paragliding festival, but the road returns to it poor state in a matter of days.
“The amount of money that government makes from the 3 0r 4 days festival is huge, but governments in the past have never considered our interest and health buy fixing the road. Every year soon after the event, we contract various illments due to the amount of dust generated in the town. If you go to the Atibie Hospital the records are there, each year they promise us that the road will be fixed but once the festival ends and they get their money they forget about us.”
Nana Barimah Kwame Asante Betiani II, lamented over the fact that since inception of the paragliding festival, custodians of the land are yet to receive any materialized benefits.
“Not even a dime from the proceeds of the festival has been given to us custodians of the land by government to help us develop the town. That is why we’re saying the government should suspend the paragliding festival this year and take its time to construct the road for us. If the festival is not held this year, it wouldn’t be out of place.”

NANA THANK YOU BLOCK THE ROAD AND LET NANA ADDO FIX THE ROAD.
Nana ( Atibie Hene ) I am supporting you to take action, but can you please give our current president at least one year for him to fix it. Please Ghanaians believe in him and he is a man of dignity . Though I'm Ghanaian citizen but not in Ghana for some years, I came back in last December just to cast my vote and return back because we saw how Ghanaians were suffering from lies etc...... NANA ATIBIE HENE please kindly allow this year, Ghanaians are proud in foreign land when foreigners visit the festival and come back to meet us here, they do respect our Nation. Nana Akuffo Addo and the Npp party will not lie to you as the previous era. May the Almighty God bless you the your kingdom. From a concern citizen.
Fiify Gadfly, I don't think you expected the Atibiehene or indeed the people of Atibie to raise resources to undertake a project which clearly falls within the domain of Central Government. And please when you are talking to a chief use words wisely. I don't think you can show this can of ***barred word*** and absurd behaviour towards your own chief. If you were not properly brought up, it is not too late for you to learn to speak as a wise person to the elderly. The road is for Government to fix not the Chief or people of Atibie. If it is not fix, I give the Chief 100% of my support to block the road, and we shall be there to ensure that this threat is carried out.
Oya u are waisting time to hurry and block it cos we have less than 2months to chop easter so hurry
Yes fix the road if any body do not understand you the person can do whatever, make sure the government fix it. Kwahu does everything by themselves this one the government should fix because he make money from it.
Papa chief contact your regional minister than the threat
Instead of being a smart leader by using your influences and offices to source for funds elswhere to fix the road, you are thinking of shutting down the road. Your own people loose their local economy as a result of the praragliding activity. This is silly! Leaders (Traditional or otherwise) must learn the habit of solving problems. Shutting things down is easy. Any i-d.i-o.t can do that.
Nana dis a good step that you are taking. Pls no bribery on dis we need good road In Kwahu. Mr Mahama Onaapo told Ghanaians that da road network that link Nkawkaw and Atibie have been fixed, which was not true. Nana help Atibiman on this.
Nana Atibiehene, please be very bold to carry out this laudable threat if government does not construct the road. These are one of the many ways our Chiefs should to be doing to bringing development to their areas, and stop putting themselves in partisan politics. God bless you and I pray that you'll stand firm to your demand.
I dare the so called chief to block the road for the festival and see if he'd become a chief again !!!
