Abossey-Okai Spare Parts dealers in Accra have condemned former Deputy Finance Minister, Casel Ato Forson, for claiming that the abolishing of import duty on spare parts would soon make the country a dumping ground for over-aged vehicles and parts.
They are, therefore, demanding an apology and retraction from him.
The chairman of Abossey-Okai Spare Parts dealers, Sammy Siaw Ampadu, in a statement reminded Ato Forson as traders they do not involve in politics.
He explained that it is the duty of the government to create wealth for the citizens, including spare parts dealers.
“We were shocked and disappointed when the Former Deputy Finance Minister in the Mahama-led administration and the Member of Parliament for Ejumako-Esiam-Enyan Constituency in the Central Region, Ato Forson, condemned the abolishment of the import duty on spare parts, claiming the move would soon make the country a dumping ground for over-aged vehicles and parts,” the statement said.
“So does that mean the NDC wanted us [spare parts dealers] to vote for them to continue ruling Ghana so that they can collapse our businesses?
“We feel Mr Ato Forson is belittling our intelligent and seeks to create the impression that we the traders do not know what we are doing,” Mr Ampadu added.

Let's strike the percentage, how many Ghanaians are using brand new cars, and how many can buy. the higher percentage is using "home used" including Ato and all those lambasting. Now the metal scraps of these imported goods have become raw materials for steel/ iron production. Ghanaians can't produce anything yet their MOUTH eeeibei
THIS GUYS AT ABOSEY OKAI SHOULD GIVE US A BRAKE. WHEN BRAINS ARE DIGESTING GOVERNMENT POLICIES AND IT EFFECT ON WE THE CITIZENS YOU ARE THERE SAYING WHAT?. BY THE WAY I KNOW MOST OF THE GUYS AT THE ABOSEY OKAI MARKET. THEY WILL NEVER VOTE FOR NDC EVEN IF THEY ARE GIVEN 1 MILLION GHANA CEDIS EACH. THEIR CONCERN SHOULD BE ON HOW THEY WILL BE ABEL TO UTILIZE THE MONEY THAT WILL COME INTO THEIR POCKET SINCE THEY WONT PAY ANY IMPORT DUTIES AND AS USUAL PAY THEIR INCOME TAX. IF THEY USED THE MONEY TO WOMANIZE THEN, THEY SHOULD KNOW THEY WILL CONTINUE TO DIE WITH HIV/AIDS.
But is it true that some of these spare parts sold are second hand? because me myself sometimes when I pass through abossey okai I look at some of these spare parts and ask whether they are really new products or someone somewhere just collected them on a dumping site, packed them and imported them into the country. Don't forget using some of these old parts can be cause lost of lives especially trotro cars.
The so-called dumped parts would become the raw material for the steel smelting firms in the country. It's a win-win situation. When intellectuals are engaged in problem thinking instead of solution thinking, I immediately know they do not read the latest research in critical thinking skills. Mr. Ato Forson, please read!
This issue is simple , even though is free the authorities should check the kind of parts they brought into this country. But honestly Ghana has become a dumping site ...walk through Lapaz and other places in accra you will cry over boolar goods mmmmmmmmm Ghana we have long way to go.
well said Ato measures have to be in place to curb the manage of junk coming into the country.
WHAT APOLOGY..YOU CANT BE SERIOUS...WE WILL WAIT PATIENTLY AND SEE...SECOND DEALERS ALSO VOTED FOR NPP...
We feel Mr Ato Forson is belittling our intelligent and seeks to create the impression that we the traders do not know what we are doing,” Mr Ampadu added The finder please next time do a proper proof reading .The word intelligent should rather be intelligence
WELL DONE ATO FORSON YOU SAID IT ALL THE IGNORAMUS WILL INSULT YOU BUT WHAT DEVELOPMENT WILL SECOND HAND SPARE PARTS DO TO OUR ECONOMY ONLY SMUGGLING AND DUMPING. WHEN NATIONS ARE BANNING SECOND VEHICLES WE ARE IMPORTING SECOND HAND PARTS AT AGE 60 AMA GHANA SHAME ON YOU
He is right. Ghana will become a country of used and rickety dangerous vehicles and parts. Bola spare parts from outside and we think it is good. They scavenge things from dump sites and ship them to Ghana. Is this what we want? Dumping ground for boola spare parts. It will kill you before the car reaches Nkawkaw. Instead of cutting tax on essential goods and services that will benefit the poor like water, electricity, fuel, food you cut spare parts and Kw..asiafo are happy
