Insurance marketer Edgar Wiredu has disagreed with President Nana Akufo-Addo’s position that laboratories and workshops of Technical High Schools are the answer to unemployment in the country.
In his view, the president is championing “ancient ideas” instead of thinking of technology which is ruling the world now. “It is high time we think of technology not laboratories and workshops for students in that level, the president has misfired.”
President Akufo-Addo said his government’s flagship policy, Free SHS, will not be turned into a process of churning out young people that will not be equipped with skills to cope with the modern world, stressing that that a high school educated child without any skills would be more frustrated than a child that ended her education at the Junior High School level.
It is against this that the President stated that, it is in the laboratories and workshops that students in the second cycle level will get the opportunity to expand their imagination, and develop the skills that would equip them for the job market.
But contributing on Onua FM morning show ‘YenNsem Pa’, Edgar Wiredu said the idea of workshops and laboratories belong to the past. Emphasis, he said, should rather be placed on making sure that students coming out of SHS are equipped with modern day trend of technologies, adding that “nations are using technology to build the future, we are here talking about workshops”.
Pointing to some examples to buttress his point, Edgar Wiredu explained that, elsewhere in the world, countries are using E-Learning to solve forest depletion, whiles some are also using technology to develop and bring change in the lives of their people.
He wondered why the president will not lead Ghana to champion same technological reforms rather than workshops. Edgar Wiredu posited that the President’s advisors are doing a great disservice to him and ask that they should be proactive in their thinking which will go a long way to help the country move forward, else Ghana will continue to lag behind in terms of technology.
“We are now in the era that is ruled by technology and we must also advance in that order. Our ‘big men’ travel, I think it is time we replicate what we see being done elsewhere or we can’t develop like them.”

Hello Mr Owiredu, so, do you also PHD, the center of you mr Owiredu and your wife house, is the kitchen, its means, your wife don't cook in your dinning table and bring it to the kitchen for you to eat, she cook in the kitchen and bring it to your dinning table for you to eat, (so your kitchen can be call laboratory) your wife is only person in that kitchen adding things to make food for your one Parc stomach to reduce to 6 Parc, let came to (WORKSHOP) JSS and SSS was introduce to Ghanaians because he JJ RAWLINGS was not good at school, but, very good when its comes to handy works, so it is very important that we don't add doctors nurses pharmacist carpenters auto mechanic together in the same class room, The man who introduce Microsoft did its in his own lab, The ICT people don't go to lab, they go to workshop, in that workshop, they have their own lab, and ICT also have divisions , so with out lab and workshop you can develop anything , please the NDC PHD certificate you Have I don't know how and where you got it from.
so now we see the kind of heads leading our institutions they think they know it all but empty brains....
Today every ignoramus talk about technology as only ICT. Technology does not mean computers ooooo ton. Technology means painstaking experiments in labs and workshops then presented as finished goods to people like Edgar. It's painful, such people head the marketing and HR departments of technical institutions and think technical guys who work in labs.workshops and manage systems have no brains. Quite sad.
Eish! Ancient paaa? Lol...very good comic relief.
This Owiredu does not understand the word technology, where are all these technologies are develop from?,may be from his mother's kitchen where big size of banku is prepare to feed his coconut head.Daawa konko come again
Does this Mr Wiredu knows what he is talking about? Where did all the technologies he's talking about come from? From his st0mach may be. Ideas are developed in the labs and workshops before they become what Mr Wiredu is so enthused about. Such people want to be seen and heard and regarded as relevant to today's discourse.
This school drop out who has access to a microphone thinks he knows it all anokwa akom kor
Mr. Wiredu, please don't speak about things you don't understand just because you have the platform to speak. Technologies don't just happen by themselves or are you talking about ICT? Others you call modern spend hours on end in their labs and workshops to offer the comfort you consider modern. Without the requisite practical skill coupled with the theoretical understanding there is nothing we can do for ourselves so please leave the present to pursue his commendable vision in peace.
Mr. Owiredu, I don't seem to get your point. Are technologies developed in a vacuum? I think some people worked in labs, developed ideas and technologies which were improved upon by others for mankind to benefit from. Please, explain yourself more. Don;t just throw things into the air and run away.
