Member of Parliament (MP) for Lower Manya Constituency in the Eastern Region, Hon Oklitey Tei Larbi has blamed President Akufo-Addo and his government for intentionally engineering a public discourse on the towing levy which should have been implemented from July, 1, 2017.
According to him he knows government deliberately engineered the public opinion because citizens are against the mindset of the services going to be managed by certain individuals.
“Before the implementation of the law, parliament should have had discussions conforming on what it should entail and what should actually be done . . . But the authorities involved refused to do the right thing due to their selfish interest leading us to where we are now.
“My advice to them is to stop window dressing the matter and rather act on the right decisions to prevent judgment debt since huge capital have been invested into the project that could have been used to solve other pressing problems facing the state currently,” he added.
He spoke on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ show with Tweneboa Koduah during a panel discussion.
An announcement by the implementing agency (NRSC) that the LI will be implemented from July, 1, 2017 was met with public outcry and calls for a review of the policy.
Upon consultations consequent to the calls, government has decided to seek a review of parts of the law specifically to achieve the following objectives:
- Removal from the law, the concept of a mandatory towing levy on all owners and persons in charge of motor vehicles and trailers.
- The role of government in the provision of towing services will be limited to only licensing and regulating service providers.

You call yourself honorable. Did you consult your constituents as stipulated by law before coming out with this policy/ For how long will this so-called honorable members continue to take as for a ride. Please what you are saying doesn't make any sense at all.
The NDC politicians must stop to continuing throwing dust into the eyes of Ghanaians. Now this Towoing of Vehicles from our roads should strictly Private since all Government Institutions are being robed by the employees with their Directors corrupt can No Ghana Ministry survive. In Europe they are private Companies that works with the Police, if the Police noticed a Vehicle spoiled on the road, they checked the Vehicle papers well then tell the driver or the one in charge of the Vehicle to take the Vehicle away in ten (10)minutes or it will be Towed away to a Police Recognised Towering Company Compound, there the Owner has to pay for cost of towering and habouring the said Vehicle for the time and work done plus Police fine. There are Private Towering Companies also which serves it members who pays an anual fee as memebers and they call the towering Club Company when in problems with mechenical assistance, if they are not able to repair the members Vehicle it is towered and brought to wish place of the Owner of member. Now in Ghana this can even create Jobs for the youth and Mechenics under a well planned Company in every town in Ghana. If they say is for the Govenment, nobody cares but Private can sack you any time. Nana believes in Ghana so the NDC corrupt politicians must keep quite and watch Please how it will work for Ghanaians.
What then is democracy? When our representatives sent to parliament to represent our interests decide to play politics instead of doing things that will alleviate us of poverty and suffering, don't we have the right to enter into public dialogue? When you use your majority to pass ***barred word*** laws, Larbi, do you want Ghanaians to hang themselves on them? You see when NPP is in power, it liberates the Ghanaian to discuss national issues openly because they offer us the true state of affairs but what happens when the NDC which is run like a communist party only the leaders decide what should be done and even then you hardly hear of opposing views. You are lucky to be elected to parliament because you have low grounding in democracy.
THAT SHOWS THE DIFFERENCE NPP AND NDC. YOU EXPECTED THE GOVERNMENT TO CONTINUE WITH SUCH A USEELLEESS POLICY BY NDC. TWEEAAAAAAAA. NDC LACK WISDOM TO RULE AND HAVE A HARDENED HEART. THE YENTIE OBIAAA SYNDROME. THIS HOW GOVERNANCE IS SUPPOSED TO BE. NPP IS TEACHING YOU HOW TO GOVERN IN CIVILITY. KUDOS TO THE PRESIDENT AND HIS TEAM.
ohh because the law was passed by NDC all NDC GUYS thinks the law is fine and suspending it is a problem now. if NPP had passed this law and incur the wrath of the citizenry then NDC will be happy cos it lead them into opposition. we know all your tricks
Are you suggesting that the government should have quietly implemented the law? What do you mean by public discourse? Members of the public are required to mandatorily pay for a service, which they will not benefit from anyway, and you are saying the public was not supposed to know or discuss it? Is that governance by your understanding? Talking of judgement debt, why will you sign contracts without first consulting the major stakeholders?
Some of these weasels deserve to be at Ankaful Hospital Why didn't your party implement it when u passed the law in 2013. Please spare us
