Irate freight forwarders have besieged the Tema Port over delays in clearing their consignment as a result of the implementation of the new paperless system.
The paperless system is meant to fast-track processes at the port but the freight forwarders numbering hundreds say the new system is counterproductive.
Before the introduction of the system, the freight forwarders had protested the implementation saying it will disrupt their processes.
The freight forwarders booed at Deputy Finance Minister Kweku Kwarteng who went to the port to calm down people.
“They told us that they were bringing a paperless process but the education didn’t go down well. Now we have sent our declarations and we have not yet received any response. So what do they mean when they say we will be able to clear our good within four hours? We think they have to suspend the system and educate us well,” one freight forwarder told journalists on Thursday.

The freight forwarders didn't take the initial education serious. They just don't want the new system to work.
There is nothing wrong with the process, they are frustrated because they cannot steal anymore.
I think the government my serious with some of tust be verhe people they pick as special assistants. Some of them are retired officers who out-lived their usefulness but are hanging on for their stomach sake. Some were ex-commissioners and assistant commissioners who are on pension but are still around as special assistants and advisers. Check their backgrounds and it could be seen that some of their outmoded policies were rejected when they tried to implement them. These smart guys are now assistants and advisers trying to force their policies on traders. My advice is that such old ex-officers be sacked to enjoy their pension so that fresh blood is given the chance to out their hands on deck for works to be done properly. It is now evidently clear that some of the compliance officers are sabotaging the system for whatever reason. They must be forced to retire for the young and computer literate guys to work
The custom officers who are to respond the declarations sent by the freight forwarders are trying very hard to sabotage the system. They are doing so just to cause a reversal of the policy so they can go to the bad old ways.If you are encountering a problem with a new system and the person in charge comes over to find out so as to inform the next steps to take do you hoot at the person? This is an unfortunate behaviour. But this behaviour of theirs will not cause a reversal of the policy. They want human intervention to pay bribes;NEVER!!!
Every NEW good policy faces some hitches in its beginning. These forwarders always want to dupe the state and that they want it to be reversed. I would be grateful if the Government will focused and NEVER go back to old sysem.
