Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has described as “one too many” explosions that occurs in the country.
According to him, "some new policies are going to come in and those who are going to try to resist those policies, I don’t think they will be listened to because it is important for us to put the safety of our people above everything else.”
His reaction follows a gas explosion that occurred at Atomic Junction in Accra where 6 people are confirmed dead and 35 others injured.
Speaking at the scene of the explosion, Dr Bawumia who rushed to Accra from the Northern region added “it is in the interest of our country that we actually implement some new policy directions....I think what Ghanaians want is solid policy to deal with this matter once and for all. We are going to move to deal with it. We owe it to the country, and government is going to take this very seriously....we are going to move quite quickly to do it. It’s not going to be one where you wait weeks for it to happen. It’s going to happen relatively quickly. We pretty much have an idea of what we are going to do in terms of policy.”

SEVERAL GAS STATIONS ACQUIRED BY ASANTEHENE,ABLAKWA AND MANY OTHERS BY DUBIOUS MEANS AND LOCATED AT RESIDENTIAL AREAS MUST BE SHUT DOWN BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY FOR SAFETY REASONS...
spare us the rhetoric bawumia, this is the fourth explosion under your watch, you told us the NDC government was incompetent, fix the problem and stop the ***barred word*** utterances, it wont solve the problem, Ghanaians are suffering
Okay so what if you decide to ban refilling of LPG at gas stationstation, my question is where will cars that use LPG buy from? If they are still going to buy at these stations then I guess we will back to square one because almost all the explosions occur during off loading of the product into their tanks. As Obama said I agree with him we need strong institutions not new policy
@npp. Let us stick to the problem at hand and stop ignorantly belittling people whose views on the tow levy policy made proper sense. A tow policy for Ghana is very necessary. But this particular tow levy policy was a very bad, dubiously crafted policy that had to be shelved. How can I pay a levy BY FORCE and when my vehicle breaks down on a road not designated by the towing agency in the policy, my vehicle will NOT be towed. Why should I contribute to a project the fruits of which I will NEVER enjoy just because my vehicle plies roads which are not designated by a towing agency?? Even hell will disagree with this tow levy policy and disapprove it completely.
Shame on you Vero. I can assure you that you will listen to Abronye DC and Sammy A wiki. These are the unseen policy makers now we did by elect. What became of the two levy on broken vehicles after these small boys said they didn't want it?
All these so called politicians are to blame for all of the problems in ghana. Nothing works in that country without bribery and corruption. The social realm is full of problems. From poor sanitation to lawlessness, armed robbery etc how can one live in such society. in the economic realm there is high inflation, high cost of living, corruption , stealing of public funds by politicians and civil service to loot and share with their friends and families. MPs have become back channel for bribery and corruption. the gas explosion and subsequent ones to follow are a result of poor safety standards, lack of compliance(FIAR) and lack of political will and education to do what is right. Ghanaians only react to events . They are good at sympathising with victims when something bad happens. That is their cultural behaviour. They love that stuff.
Another empty talk for the moment. Dejavu
Dr., when you have lawmaker encouraging lawlessness in the country, preventing institutions from enforcing their laws, the country becomes a banana entity. In Ghana any optician , whether serial caller, or communicator can take decisions, and raised themselves above any citizen. MPs should be ashamed of themselves. Especially those who were attacking the NCA
The sad reality is that Ghana is a lawless country. We have all the laws in the world but none of them actually works. Recently you have the NCA trying to enforce laws and people like Kwaku Baako calling for amnesty. Amnesty from what? From enforcing the law? We are seriously not serious. In other countries, before you can open a gas station the checks and balances alone ensure that only established companies can do that type of business. But in Ghana, all the gas stations are owned by politicians and they would site it any where they like. We need help as a country. We really do.
The strict enforcement of existing safety regulations is what must be done NOT new policies. Enforcement of regulations in every aspect of life in Ghana is almost non-existent.
