The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation has noted with concern, the public apprehension which has been precipitated by Television Licence fee, its collection and the possibility of prosecution.
The Television Licence fee promulgated under NLCD 89 as amended, requires all owners of Television sets to pay a Licence fee of GHC36.00 per a set and GHC60.00 for two or more for a year. This is regulated under L.I 2216.
• But of critical importance to the Board of GBC is the feedback from the public which it considers rich and informative, to the extent that GBC wants to assure the general public that its primary concern is to encourage all and sundry to voluntarily pay the TV Licence fee; and not to necessarily haul persons before the law courts for prosecution.
•
• The Board and Management further states that although GBC is mandated to collect the fee by law, a responsibility that would not be reneged on, the Corporation in order to realize that objective would intensify its education and ensure easy access to pay points of the Licence fee.
• Whilst encouraging all to pay the TV Licence fee, it is important to state that GBC as Public Broadcaster, when adequately funded by the public, could be weaned-off commercial advertising, since program diversity and quality should not be driven on the wheels of Commercial concerns.
• The Board and Management wishes to state that like older Public Service Broadcasters such BBC (UK), NHK (JAPAN) and ABC (AUSTRALIA); GBC also carries a constitutional mandate that must reflect the economic, cultural and political aspirations of all Ghanaians. This mandate is reflected in our obligation to cover national events, promote inclusion and drive the nation's developmental effort.
• GBC is, therefore, assuring the public that as critical partners for its success and sustenance, the public is urged to engage the Corporation to ensure that their concerns with respect to GBC's operations are seriously addressed.
The Board and Management of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) take this opportunity to wish its cherished viewers and listeners a Happy New Year.

Gtv marging of error is too much, how can you declayed formal South Africa president Thembo Mbeki dead. The man still alive, editors in GBC need to sit up or else we will not pay!
i watch tv on my laptop with a tv card , come nd collect fee from me, nannnsins
We are waiting for u guys come and collect it...
Honestly, it would have been a good idea to make it in a prepayments system. That will help you
Bcs, of kumkumbayah
You gave me free access and yet u want me to pay. Why do you want mw to pay tv license and not radio license. Besidea, You see, you pwople dont want to bear any coat in the collection of the tv license.... With dstv, if you dont pay u cant watch why cant u follow suite. Ghana water company can cut access to water if u dont pay ECG can sit in theor office and cut electricity supply So think of what u can do to deny us free access in watching tv if we dont pay by following suite and not setting up courts.
If u take all the countries of the world, only the UK and Japan pay TV License Fee. All of us know the quality of programming in Japan and UK. Why on earth will GBC want to copy UK and Japan? Do we all have the same income levels as well as quality programming? More important, who will the GBC account to? Check the Motorway; toll is collected day in and day out but look at its condition? Who does the money go?
I won't pay oooooo I won't pay.instead of creating land guard court and galamsey court, npp creating tv license court.kwassiafuo gyimigyimi.....do you people drink diesel or water after eating?
The education is not necessary, all Ghanaians understand what GBC is driving at but the masses are struggling to keep up with bills. The bills are one too many and have become thorn in the flesh. What GBC needs to do is device ways of competing strongly with the private TV stations. Why are the private stations not crying for TV licence fees when their modus of operandi are exactly the same as GBCs??? Why can't GBC charge to cover govt programmes? THe entity should be run as a private entity and not compromise on its operations and profit making unless GBC is telling Ghanaians its a registered charity. If the management of GBC cannot think outside the box and make the company a profitable and worthy one, they should resign. The incompetencies in GHana are too much and annoying.
