The Presiding Bishop of Gospel Light International Church has bashed the leadership of the Minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament, asking it to refrain from using unprintable words to describe the Speaker of Parliament.
Bishop Addae-Mensah, who appears to be unhappy with the conduct of the Minority in the august house, has called on the Minority leader Haruna Idrisu and the Asawase Member of Parliament (MP), Muntaka Mubarak and the other young minority MPs to show respect to the Speaker of the House.
In an interview, the man of God said he was amazed to hear Hon Haruna telling the Speaker that he (Haruna) would disrespect him, if he dared him.
“I have also on several occasions heard Hon Muntaka and some of his colleagues on radio using unprintable words in an attempt to accuse the Right Honorable Speaker of Parliament, Prof Aaron Mike Oquaye of deliberately trying to frustrate and prevent the minority from contributing to issues on the floor of parliament.”
Bishop Addae-Mensah said: “Even in the wake of such disagreements, resorting to acidic and insulting words to humiliate the leader of such house is unparliamentarily and portrays insincerity and hypocrisy.”
“Even though the house has its own rules and procedures, there are avenues where grievances of such nature could be channeled for redress rather than rushing to the radio and TV with stinking language to describe a well respected personality like Prof Oquaye, he added.
“What kind of morals are these minority members showing the current generation of our children? For me, leadership of parliament must be with brains and not brawn. It is unacceptable in our culture to look at a man old enough to be your father and call him names,” he said.
“Hon Muntaka Mubarak likened the Speaker of Parliament’s actions in the house to that of Iddi Ammin or Mobutu and it’s an insult to himself and the party he belongs to. It tells the kind of training he had at home.”
“If someone looks him in the face and calls him a ‘fool’ or ‘stupid’ will he master the courage or the moral right to drag such a person to the privileges committee?” he quizzed.
According to the Presiding Bishop, leadership is a seed, what one sows is what he reaps.”
He said minority leaders like J.H Mensah, Paapa Owusu Ankomah and Kingsford Alban Bagbin in the same parliament performed creditably.
Bishop Addae-Mensah believes the performance of the particular minority group in parliament might be the worst in history.
“It appears since the emergence of the fourth Republic in our current democratic dispensation, I think this batch of Minority group in parliament is the most awful I have ever seen.
“Though I know there are a lot of descent and well respected men and women among the NDC MPs, there are also few young ones who are trying to become ‘hawks’ overnight with egoistic intent of wanting to gain popularity.”
Meanwhile, Bishop AddaeMensah has also called on Nana Obiri- Boahen to honourably resign his post owing to the unguided comments he made about his own party.

@ EVIL NDC you are a little-minded person to be ethnical. You are an enemy to progress. What has their behaviour got to do with Northerners. You have a craptologic personality. Nothing good might come out of you because you are a little mind.
COUNSEL OFFERED BY THIS "BISHOP" BECAUSE I BELIEVE HE IS NOT A RIGHT ONE, IS POISON. IF HE COUNSELS MARRIAGE COUPLES HE WILL COLLAPSE THE MARRIAGE. ONE-SIDED AND VERY SUBJECTIVE PERSON. UNLESS HE IS PLAYING MISCHIEF BECAUSE OF POLITICS WHICH IS NOT FAR FROM THE TRUTH, HE NOT A MATURE COUNSELOR. THAT "BISHOP" NEED TO KNOW THAT SUPPRESSION IS BONDAGE CONDEMANABLE BY THE HOLY BIBLE. RESPECT IS EARNED BUT NOT FORCED. THERE IS GOOD REASON WHY THE BIBLE SAYS THAT THE YOUNG SHOULD RESPECT THE ELDERLY AND THAT THE ELDERLY SHOULD NOT PROVOKE THE YOUTH. FOR WHAT REASON IS THE "BISHOP" CHOOSING AND SELECTING. I WILL NEVER WANT TO BE IN THE CONGREGATION OF THIS "BISHOP" BECAUSE, HE HAS THE TENDENCY TO GATHER SOME FEW ELDERLY PEOPLE THAT HE CAN MANIPULATE AS CHURCH BOARD AND FINANCE COMMITTEE MEMBERS AND TWIST SCRIPTURES TO COMPEL THE YOUTH NOT TO CHALLENGE THEIR ACTIONS SO THAT HE WILL LOOT THE CHURCH COFFERS.
just listen to the way the so called minority leader strings his sentences....very incoherent n pronunciations awful but he wants to stampede everybody in the house.....he is filled with foolhardiness.... a braggart who had to plagiarize to make it thru the university system...mtcheeeew
Can't see myself voting in Ghana again, am so disappointed with the quality of MPs we have.
Bishop, you are 100% right....infact, free education in the north is the major cause of these attitudes being shamelessly exhibited by our smock-wearing cattle rearing minority folks......what they are doing as minority is shameful to say the least.
In as much as I do not subscribe to what you talking where the young disrespect the old, respect is not commanded or bought but is earned!!! I appreciate you calling to order the minority but have you also considered what might have led to that action? A minority leader is an equal leader of the house and must be accorded the respect, that is all the minority leader is asking for!!! It somehow surprises me how long you have been in this country Bishop! Can you recollect how the now majority in the minority treated the previous speakers? In all these times Bishop, you were never heard off, why Bishop? The word of God is a 2 edged sword, cutting through "sin" irrespective of who is involved. Bishop, it would have been more appropriate to have spoken in general and call parliamentarians to order without narrowing it down to just the minority, then and only then will your clarion call serve it's intended purpose!!! We as a nation has relegated God to the back, with charlatans having a field day. Bishop please call on the few good men of God to really step up their game so morals which have fallen so low will be re-kindled and i tell you our parliamentarians will be drawn in line!!!
Please Bishope u must stay away from politics, because ur criticism doesn't reflect true democracy. In a democratic state parties are entitled to criticism the government which includes the speaker in any way expect the used of conflict to criticize,so please understand that the speaker cannot always be right and the minority cannot always be right but through such actions will bring both to cooperation.Thank you
Pastor i humble respect ur advice bu u know our politics please keep quite and save itself from insults. Someone is destroying his political prospect, he should sit down and reflect on things and he will know what I am saying.
Yes it is too low. NPP MPs in opposition did not worst things and where you. Oh you suddenly woke up?
You have even hit lower than those you’re criticizing so what is the more behind that. I thought you should stay away from political issues because by your utterances, yuh don’t have the temperament for it.
