Former General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong has proposed the creation of a regulatory body to supervise the activities of religious groups in the country.
This he said will help stem the mushrooming of churches and also prevent fake pastors from exploiting the weak and gullible citizens who seek spiritual help from these churches.
There are growing concerns over the immoral and flagrant abuses by persons professing to be religious leaders.
Many have expressed worry over ‘men of God’ whose prosperity messages seems to glorify the amassing of great wealth and activities that are ungodly.
Speaking on NEAT FM’s talk show dubbed Torchlight; Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong said “What is going on in our churches now is not good.”
“We can’t sit and watch this to happen. We need an independent body to regulate our church activities. This must be done immediately, the body must have rules and laws to guard the churches and its activities,” he told Mc-Jerry Osei Agyeman.

It’s a no brained idea.you want the church to be persecuted right.i don’t support this for instance just imagine an okomfo or a moslem as head of such a body.what rather must happen is for every Christian Church to belong to a Christian organization with a formal code of ethics.Politicians can never regulate churches because they do not have such wisdom
Totally in support of this. The church or religious bodies MUST invest a percentage of their income into social intervention programs such as the NHIS or social service initiatives in the communities they operate by law. There is also the need for the chieftaincy institution to also financially accountable to their communities. A real revolution (not a coup d'etat) is needed to address these issues. Leaders who have real balls are needed to bring these reforms.
First, the constitution guarantees freedom of religion. But pastors must know what they are not allowed to do. Like giving medical advice etc. They are not physicians and must be arrested if they practice medicine in church without a license.
We tell them but they dont mind us.
Good idea
