The Gbese Mantse together with some high ranking traditional leaders, assemblies, opinion leaders, and other stakeholders have pledged to support the Ministry of Railways Development to ensure that Ghana’s railway system is developed for the betterment of the country.
This came out after the sector minster; Joe Ghartey paid a courtesy call on the Gbese Mantse during a working tour in the nation’s capital to access rehabilitation projects ongoing.
Joe Ghartey was welcomed by high members of the Ga traditional council namely - Nii Dodoo Nsaki III of Otublohum, Nii Ayikai III of Akumanjen, Nii Kwao Donkor II of Asere, Nii Ahene Nunoo III of Abola, Nii Addotey Otinto II of Sempe.
Others include Nii Akwaa Mensah III of Naiwulome and Nuumo Ogbame III of Sakumotsoshishi.
Speaking at the short ceremony, the Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayibonte II lauded President Nana Addo for his creation of the railway ministry to revive the railway system.
"I support President Akufo-Addo on his attempt to bring back to life the railway industry which has been abandoned for a long time. We promise to support this government and the Ministry in any way we can to ensure the railway transport is back on its feet.” He said
Adding that, “We shall communicate to all our sub chiefs from Katamanto to Papase to inform their communities, and especially, trespassers of railway lands to vacate for construction works to commence. Do not hesitate to call on us, should your engineers face any difficult with the trespassers on site. For we are solidly behind you"
The minister was however thankful by the support promised by the chiefs and assured that his ministry will work to ensure that the president’s vision to revamp the railway system comes to reality.
He was accompanied during the tour by Hon. Ishmael Ashitey (Greater Accra Regional Minister), Hon. Elizabeth Sackey (Greater Accra Regional Deputy Minister) Hon. Adjei Sowah (Accra Mayor), Hon. Ebenezer Nartey (MP for Ablekuma Central), Hon. Fuseini Issah (MP for Okaikoi north), Hon. Jajah(MP for Ayawaso East, and Hon. Nii Ayitey Boafo.
The rest include Mr. John Essel, Mr. Anyetei (Managing Director and deputy of Ghana Railways Company, respectively) and some staff. Also, Mr. Kwame Adorbor, Chief Director of the Ministry of Railways Development and some staff.
