The Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso has been asked to step aside and allow the newly-constituted Interim Council to take over the affairs of the school.
The National Council for Tertiary Education conveyed it to the Vice-Chancellor on Monday, 29 October, 2018.
Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, has been made ag. Vice-Chancellor.
She became the university’s first female Pro-Vice Chancellor last September.
Government has replaced the dissolved council with a seven-member Interim Council to look into the recent disturbances on campus, which resulted in the destruction of over 40 cars and 10 motorbikes.
However, the UTAG KNUST branch has declared strike while the university remains shut down following the disturbances.
The lecturers said they do not support the government’s arbitrary decision without due consultation with them and also sidelining the Vice Chancellor of the University from the interim council.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the University Students' Association of Ghana has commended government for the dissolution of the KNUST council and has thus presented a warm compliment to the Students' Representative Council (SRC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The Interim Council is chaired by Nana Effah Apenteng, Paramount Chief of the Bompata Traditional Area.
The committee was formed after briefs and recommendations made by the Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, after he led a high-powered delegation, including the Minister of National Security, Albert Kan-Dapaah; and the Minister-Designate for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, to Kumasi.

No one can sack you. They will make a U turn
I wished you are sacked, you will learn your lessons next time, you will not bring politics to you work place, TO HARASSED PEOOLE'S CHILDREN
This is the right decision. If anyone has a problem with it, Oya you can proceed to court to seek for remedies. That NINJa VC was a total mess and we are this stage bcos the back stops with the Government. No amount of strike by TEWU and UTAG will let the govt reverse this decision; after all they were all there when the KASAPREKO VC was acting fuulishly knowing very well the KNUST was sitting on time bomb. Now no turning back. Oya carry on Interim Council.
Hahahaaa. Prof have you now seen your real size in this country? This is a lesson to all those who will dare to touch Vandals, Katangees and Casfordians
These University Students Association and the so-called SRC are all confused and use less groups. Are they not the one who called on government to intervene? So if government has intervened what is their problem? Government has dissolved the council that is oppressing students. Instead of the SRC coming out to support government to remove the oppressors the SRC and University Students Association are rather *fuuulinng* . I wish the government can withdraw from this case and the the VC and council to continue oppressing these *fuuuulisshh* students. In fact this Vice Chancellor is a known NDC supporters and must go immediately to allow a neutral person to take over.
" Article 70 (1)(d)(iv) of the 1992 Constitution clearly states that "The President shall, acting in consultation with the Council of State, appoint the Chairmen and other members of a National Council for Higher Education howsoever described". "The Act of Parliament that established the KWAME NKRUMAH UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, KUMASI ACT - 1961 (ACT 80), specifically Section 7 concerning the University Council states that "(1) The governing body of the University shall be the University Council which shall consist of the following members appointed by the PNDC (Government): (a) the Chairman; (b) the Vice-Chancellor; (c) two representatives of Convocation (one of professorial status and one of non-professorial status); (d) one representative of the University Teachers Association; (e) a representative of the undergraduate students of the University; (f) a representative of the post-graduate students of the University; (g)…; (h) a representative of the Teachers and Education Workers Union; (i) a representative of the Education Commission; (j) a representative of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools; (k) a representative of the Alumni Association of the University; and (l) three other persons including at least one woman. [As substituted by the University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (Amendment) Law, 1990 (PNDCL 240), s. 1(c)".

This government is just behaving like Donald Thrump. Patapaa will not lead you anywhere. you are creating more trouble in the sector. Don't we have wise people in this country to advise this senseless government. God save us.
The most sensible decision ever...! One person can't be the reason the whole university community is in a messy mess.
Is it me that is confused or the News reportage ? The UTAT/TEWU and student Reps appeared to be approbating and re-probating ? Somebody please educate me here.
