The families of the Takoradi kidnapped girls have described the reassignment of DCOP Tiwaa Addo-Danquah from the post of Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to the Director of Welfare as a vindication of their demands to have her sacked.
Calls for the dismissal of the outgoing CID boss was spearheaded by the families of the kidnapped girls due to what they termed as her supposed incompetence in the handling of investigations into the kidnappings of their relatives.
A spokesman for the families, Michael Hayford Grant and a sister of one of the kidnapped girls, Nana Adjoa Quayson, in a Citi News interview demanded reasons for DCOP Tiwaa’s reassignment instead of her dismissal.
“When I heard the news, I wasn’t surprised because we are in an election year and anything can happen. However, we do not know what the next CID boss is coming to do about our issue given the fact that they claim the bones that were found were those of the girls. God is watching them. We asked that she is sacked but they refused to do.”
The families further asked the new CID Director to re-investigate the kidnapping issue.
“The leaders of this country know what is good for them but they won’t do it. Initially, when the issue came up, we called on the CID boss to resign but they waited till now and rather moved her. For me, I do not know why they reassigned her. She has to resign or be sacked, that is what will be best. We, however, have confidence in the new IGP. So as it stands now, the families are just hoping for the best.”
Tiwaa’s troubles
Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah (then ACP), the Second-In-Command at the CID Headquarters, was asked to take over the mantle of leadership at the Criminal Investigations Department in 2017 when the then CID boss, COP Bright Oduro was ordered to proceed on his terminal leave, pending his retirement in January 2018.
Her promotion came at a time when she was receiving a lot of backlash following accusations of alleged unprofessional conduct in a case she was investigating.
Tiwaa again came under fire in 2019 when she assured families of the three kidnapped Takoradi girls that she knew the whereabouts of their missing relatives, an assurance which turned out to be false.
A lot of Ghanaians called on her to resign over the gaffe.
CID boss Tiwaa, 23 others reassigned
Instead, she was reassigned by the Inspector General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh on Friday, January 3, 2019.
She is now the Director-General in-charge of Welfare at the Ghana Police Service.
COP Isaac Ken Yeboah, formerly the Director-General in-charge of Administration is now the new Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department.
Tiwaa’s reassignment is supposed to take effect on January 15, 2020.

Your comments are highly insensitive and reckless. They clearly show your lack of appreciation of the issue being dealt with regarding the girls. I pray nothing of the sort should befall any of you or your family but if you found yourselves in the shoes the girls' relatives you probably would have done the same things they did or worst. The call for the resignation of the then CID boss was not personal but based on the rules of engagement. The highest authority in that arm of the police service,CID simply lied. And it was not just a lie told in casual conversation with her colleagues: it was a lie she told the whole nation at a press conference. She deceived not only Ghanaians but her boss the president who appointed her! So if she were an officer worth her salt she should not even wait to be asked to resign. She should have done so as a matter of principle and integrity of the police service. So it is disgusting to find people who question why she should resign. In some jurisdiction she would have been prosecuted for lying that she knew where the girls were and that they were safe only to later tell us they are dead! It would be reasonable to hold her responsible for their deaths since she was presumably the last person who saw them 'safe'!
Policing and the duties of the police is not all about the Takoradi Girls. You owed the first duty to have protected your wards and before the police could help. If the Takoradi Girls kidnap was your source of livelihood then you will die of hunger. Get another venture because the matter is dead and gone
Your noises have become so ***barred word*** that discerning Ghanaians now take your concerns with a pinch of salt. What do you gain if Tiwaa is sacked? Is it Tiwaa who kidnapped your kids? I smell political motives in all your dealings and God is also watching you. It was under Tiwaa that all the culprits were arrested and being persecuted now. When the girls got missing, how long did it take the families to reports the matter to the Police, A lot of Ghanaians have gone missing in the past and lip service was given to it, But under Tiwaa substantial state resources have been sunk into the Takoradi girls case more than any other investigation but you are still not enthused? It is regrettable that the girls were found dead and even the forensic reports are being questioned by you. Please go ahead and do whatever pleases you and stop wasting our ears.
