The Presidency has been urged to meet traditional leaders for their ideas in containing the spread of COVID-19 in Ghana.
Mr Samson Asaki Awingobit, a flagbearer hopeful, People's National Convention (PNC), who made the call, commended the President and the Vice-president for respectively meeting with the leaders of the Christian and Muslim religions " but must officially involve the custodians of the land on this very important matter."
Mr Awingobit said, "I've observed with keen interest recent meetings between the presidency and that of leaders of the various religious groups on seeking the face of God, in the matter.
"However we must not as a country neglect the traditional foundation of the country," he said.
He indicated that it would be more appropriate for the presidency as a matter of urgency, also accord the same respect and platform to the leaders of the traditional areas who "equally possess much influence on the populace."
"With the role traditional leaders, queen mothers, priests and priestesses play in our national discourse, I believe their prayers and ideas are much needed in times like this, "he noted.
He also called on government to strengthen the various institutions mandated to fight the COVID-19 outbreak, saying the growing number of COVID-19 cases, had the propensity of bringing about fear and panic among the populace hence the needed swift actions.
The PNC flagbearer hopeful also advised the general public to stay safe and adhere to the various directives and measures put in place by the government in "these trying times."

This is not a time to accord respect and recognition at the presidency. This is a time to act wisely and decisively.China, a country of over 1billion people, managed to contain the epidemic through wise, carefully calculated and decisive measures but not through meeting religious groups. And the context must be set that theirs was a novelty, they were hit flat on the face and had no time to even prepare to deal with it and yet they were able to deal with it squarely! For three(3) continuous days China has stopped recording new cases of the virus within China. That is leadership! Here we are playing the ostrich under the guise of religion! We are simply underestimating the destruction this virus can do to human lives and economies! WHO has been sounding the alarm bells to African countries long before the virus makes its landing in Africa. And it was for the right reason because Africa has not been able to solve very basic problems like poverty. And now they have to confront mighty covid-19 unprepared! It is not surprising the level of confusion and panic despite the brave face governments want to put up amidst rising cases across the continent. It is at man's most desperate moments that he turns to his Maker and the level of high profile meetings at the presidency in the past few days already suggest we are at that stage amidst rising case counts daily!. Alas ,Mother Africa, when will your political leaders realize that the fuel for poverty and disease is corruption and bad governance? Whilst governments are releasing monies to cushion their citizens and economies, African governments are strategizing how to go and borrow from the fund made available by IMF to deal with covid-19, despite the abundance of natural resources available to us!
THE BEST WAY TO ADDRESS COVID 19 IS NOT MEETINGS BUT RIGHT DECISIONS AND ACTIONS SEEN OF NANA ADDO. RELIGIOUS LEADERS HAD TO BE MET BCOS THEY WERE ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN GATHERING PEOPLE. SOME OF THEIR MEMBERSHIP WERE STUBBORNN AND LESS REASONABLE WHO HAD TO BE CONFRONTED INDIRECTLY THRU THE GOOD ONES . WE DONT HAVE SUCH PROBLEMS WITH TRADITIONAL LEADERS WHY A MEETING WITH THEM. WE MUST AVOID USELESSS AND MEANINLESS METTINGS. NOW ANYBODY WANTS ATTENTION FROM COVID 19
