Government will no longer continue sharing free food to the vulnerable following the lifting of the partial lockdown in some selected areas in the country.
It may be recalled that government started the distribution of free meals to over 400,000 Ghanaians in locked-down areas amidst the COVID-19 outbreak in Ghana.
The distribution of “food packages and hot meals” was to lessen the burden on poor households for the three-week lockdown period.
In his 7th address to the nation on Sunday, April 20, President Nana Akufo-Addo lifted the restrictions on movement and urged that other measures to curb the spread of the virus be adhered to.
Highlighting on various aspects of the President's address in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on PeaceFM's "Kokrokoo", Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah pointed out that "since the partial lockdown has been lifted, there will no longer be free food.
" . . but the free water and electricity which the President assured Ghanaians in his previous address is still in force for three months," he said.
President Nana Akufo-Addo has lifted the three-week partial lockdown imposed in the Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi districts with effect from 1 am Monday, 20th April 2020.
This is in spite of the country's Coronavirus case count having increased to 1,042. Total samples tested so far stands at 68,591 with 1.5 % testing positive.
Observe Protocols
Although the lifting of the restrictions may come as a relief to the many whose livelihoods may have been hit hard following the imposition, access to some major sectors remains restricted.
The country’s borders remain closed.
Further to these, all other measures including social distancing are also to be adhered to.
Additionally, suspension of public gathering including religious meetings, still stands; likewise the closure of all educational facilities.

I AM SURPRISE TO THE UNGRATEFUL HEART OF SOME GHANAIANS; WHERE IN THIS WORLD IS FOOD BEING GIVEN FREE OF CHARGE SIMPLE BECAUSE THEREIS A PANDEMIC :FREE WATER; SUBSIDISE ELECTRICITY TALIF; YET PEOPLE ARE WRITING TRASH: BE APPRECIATIVE FOR ONCE: I NOW UNDERSTAND WHY AFRICANS ARE SUFFERING: GOD HAVE MERCY ON MOTHER GHANA AND AFRICA: COME AND SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING IN EUROPE LAWS ARE OBEYED WITHOUT INSULTS.
HERRRRHH THESE GUYS ARE SMART. THEY ARE GOING TO USE PART OF THE DONATIONS RECEIVED FOR THIER CAMPAIGN AND THE REST INTO PRIVATE POCKECTS WHILES THE MASSES CONTINUE TO SUFFER. MORE SO HOW DO YOU EXPECT PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT WORKED FOR THREE WEEKS GET MONEY TO BUY FOOD KNOWING VERY WELL THEY EARN DAILY WAGES FROM THEIR TOIL. THIS IS WICKEDNESS TO SAY THE LEAST. SO THE 12 MILLIONS DONATED SO FAR INTO THE COVID 19 FUND, WHERE IS IT.I BET SOMEONE WILL TURN THIS MONEY AROUND ....HMMM TSAI AFRICAN LEADERS....
ghanaians must understand that we have never had a government that can develop the country. The president never had a solid plan to fight the pandemic. He was dreaming about his national cathedral. He was dreaming about inviting foreigners to come and get rich from our resources whiles we remain poor. It is four years now since he took money from Kayayei to change Ghana - but he has done nothing for them. Even his own mayor of Accra destroyed their homes at Old Fadama to make babies and mothers sleep on the open street. That is how use-fukkkking-less Nana Addo presidency is.
I thought 1 more week would be added and the Eastern region also added to enable all the backlog samples to be tested before a decision on lifting the ban is made
Don't wear the white mans nose mask! Don't even touch it. Let the ministers and all those who love the whites go for the vaccination and continue to be even more zommmbies for the white mans manipulations. Charley nobody should allow their sons and daughters to be vaccinate and turned into zombies! Africa beware of wicked vaccinations
I am now convinced that this is a bogus government. How can you do this 419 to Ghanaians. Look at the donations Ghanaian rich men have donated, companies have donated so much money into the COVID fund, government has gone for IMF loans, taken money for stabilization fund and contingency fund. After taking all these monies you now lift the lockdown and tell Ghanaians no food will be shared to people Ghana. The whole government machinery is corrupt. This is absolutely unacceptable. They are not even accounting for Ghanaians to know how much money the have collected and how much have been spent so far and what are the rest going to be used for.
