The National Identification Authority (NIA) has introduced two packages for individuals who were unable to register for the national ID cards during the nationwide mass registration exercise to do so at a fee.
The two packages, institutional and premium, would be done at a GH₵100 and GH₵250 respectively.
The Chief Executive Officer of the NIA, Mr Ken Attafuah made this known in an interview on Accra-based Joy FM on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.
According to him, the institutional package would be done at home or offices, while the premium package would be done at a facility such as a hotel, of the applicant’s choice.
He said the premium package would come with comforting facilities such as air-condition, some coffee, tea or Milo in a serene environment.
“Organisations can write to the NIA through the Executive Secretary for us to come and do institutional registration [for them]. That is at a fee of GH₵100 per person. You can also invite us to your home as long as the persons in your home are more than five. We can come and register at home also at a fee of GH₵100 per person. In terms of both, the logistics and distance we cover will also be picked up by the applicant.
“There is also premium registration, which is available. We set up a centre at Movenpick or Golden Tulip or wherever where we can go and register at a fee of GH₵250. There are options, but all that we do at the mass registration centres are all free,” he added.
According to Mr Attafuah, the fees were approved by Parliament since the NIA registration was a public-private arrangement hence, there ought to be a mode of getting revenue support from the enterprise.

IT IS GOOD IDEA, BUT I HOPE THIS WOULD NOT TAKE AWAY THE OFFICES THAT NIA NEEDS TO SET UP AT EVERY DISTRICT FOR CONTINUING REGISTRATION WITH SOME MOUNT OF FEE ACCORDING TO THE ESTIMATED INCOME OF THE INDIVIDUALS.. SUCH CONSIDERATION WOULD HELP TO CHARGE THE POOR VERY LITTLE TO ENCOURAGE ALL TO GET THE CARD. NIA SHOULD ALSO WORK IT OUT THAT WHEN YOU USE YOUR NIA CARD TO GET YOUR DRIVING LICENCE OR YOU WOULD NOT NEED TO CARRY THE NIA CARD WITH THE LICENSE ALL THE TIME. THE LICENCE MUST BE ACCEPTED TO DO MOST OF THE WORK THAT NIA ID CAN DO BECAUSE OF ITS FEATURES.
These tsupiiid Akyem mafias! You deliberately frustrated people during the mass registration and now you want to make money out of Ghanaians! Was it not the same Ghanaians whose tax money sponsored this failed exercise? You think I can't do tea or milo in my house? And on top of that when you come I have to pay your transportation in addition to paying for 250GHC! Does this ediot know some Ghanaians can't even afford a decent meal a day and still need to have Ghana card for planning purposes? Nana is just turning everything upside down for his selfish , parochial interests and to change history to suit his ancestors! You are compiling a new Voter's register even in the face of opposition from numerous CSOs and faith-based organizations and the documents required for this new register is not even available to most people! How can a few people think they are wiser than the so many people who advised against this exercise?
Is it ECOWAS Card or Ghana Card? I am confused.
@Naana & Koffaeh it seems you’re all ndc members who don’t read and if they do they do not comprehend please read well to understand because you’re not a cooperate entity haha. NDC YAAMUTU NDC YAAMUTU NDC YAAMUTU NDC YAAMUTU NDC YAAMUTU NDC YAAMUTU
This is a very bad move and should not be encouraged, why should a Ghanaian be made to pay such an amount as a premium package. it will bring intentional sabotage to the normal registration
No problem. We will rely on guarantors to help us register. When you have failed us, you expect us to pay for the cards? 3y3 wae!
