Farmers in the northern regional regional parts of the country are growing in anger following reports that the Minority side of the Vetting Committee has rejected the nomination of the Agric Minister-designate, Hon. Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
They are therefore threatening to stage a massive nationwide demonstration if the Minority side of the house does not rescind its decision.
In a strongly-worded statement issued by the spokesperson for the Farmers Forum in the Upper West Region, Alaska Kantong, the farmers called on the 137 NDC Members of Parliament to put the interest of the nation above that of their personal interest.
“We want to urge the NDC Members of Parliament to totally reject the recommendation of their members on the Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture. They should know that majority of us who are farmers in the northern regions of the country are not happy with their action” the group said.
The group further reminded the NDC that the majority of their constituents stand to lose a lot should they go ahead to vote against the Agric Minister-designate, adding that his rejection could mark the end of the hugely successful Planting for Food and Jobs programme which they say has brought massive success to farmers in the country.
The Farmers Forum noted that since his inception as the Minister for Food and Agriculture in 2017, the nominee has always acted in the supreme interest of ordinary farmers through various initiatives which have improved their businesses and socio-economic development.
According to them, Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto’s love and commitment for the socio-economic wellbeing of Ghanaian farmers is unprecedented in the history of this country, cautioning that any attempt to sabotage his approval will be fiercely resisted.
“We are calling on the NDC not to make a mistake that they will regret later. Because we farmers are very comfortable with the current administration of the Agric Minister and there is no way we are going to accept their decision to reject the Agric Minister-designate “

Competence is alien to the NDC as a political party otherwise the Minority side of the Appointments Committee who are NDC- members would not seek to disapprove Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Mrs. Koomson of their ministerial appointments.
The distinction should be made between academic qualifications and competence. It appears that, especially, most of the NDC politicians erroneously equate competence to academic qualifications and proficiency in the english language. Hence, they don't regognize competence so as to appreciate it, and in effect, awfully underperform their political mandates. Further, they become very uneasy when they encounter their had-working and competent NPP counterparts.
