Former General Secretary Christian Council of Ghana and Executive Director, Alliance for Christian Advocacy Africa, Reverend Dr. Kwabena Opuni Frimpong has blamed politicians for being responsible for the reasons behind the decision by some Ghanaians who have refused to get vaccinated against COVID 19.
According to him, many citizens still do not believe the fact that COVID-19 is real due to how political leaders go about with the protocols when they attend rallies and other political activities.
“Our political leaders must show a good example because there are people who don’t believe that COVID is real because of some of the things they have seen from our leaders when they attend political party activities and funerals. Let’s give them a good example. Ghanaians must take the vaccine willingly not being forced,” Rev Opuni Frimpong said in an interview with JoyNews monitored by MyNewsGH.com.
To check and minimize the importation of the new variant Omicron virus into the country, the Government of Ghana has issued a mandatory vaccination for travellers at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
It also said people who do not get vaccinated would not be allowed to access public facilities or attend some events, especially during this festive season.
The Ghana Health Service has also said that most of the new COVID 19 cases (Omicron) are imported ones.
However, speaking to the issues in his interview, Rev. Opuni Frimpong reprimanded politicians saying they have not set a good example for the public to follow.
“I must say that our political leaders have not given us a good example in terms of public activities”. Rev. Opuni Frimpong said.
“The things they have said, again and again, they have not practised them especially when they are attending their political party member’s funeral. They don’t relate with the kind of admonishing we have heard again and again and it is very worrying. Going forward if our political leaders will demonstrate best examples of the things they are telling us, we will be encouraged to do more”, he adds.
The man of God again noted that the approach to mandatory vaccination is very unfortunate adding that, health workers are not supposed to force people to get vaccinated rather better engagement and education can do the magic.

Each one for himself; God for us all! I don't die when they die; they don't die when I die oo Pastor! I will protect myself!
MY QUESTION TO PASTOR OPUNI IS , IS HE VACCINATED, IF YES WHY , IF NO WHY?
Nobody is forcing you to vaccinate, please but the govt says you can't deal with the state if you have not vaccinated. If you don't have any business dealing with state institutions so be it. If you think politicians own your life so when you die it will affect them, don't vaccinate. Leadership is not only about political leaders but include everybody such as pastors like Opuni. Your utterances such as these also lead people astray. Instead of advising people to vaccinate look at what you are saying? do you think your followers will vaccinate? Statements like these prevented a section of Ghanaians not to do Ghana card now look at how people are struggling hard to get the Ghana card. God help Ghana.
@Papa Vee. There is nothing wrong with someone who decides not to accept something he or she is uncomfortable with. Vaccine is not the only way to treat disease but in other for them to continue in their modern day subtle slavery, we are made to believe that the only solution is Vaccine because you can't make it. Don't stuck in modern mental slavery. There is nothing wrong for someone to be Anti-vax.
@Pianim. There is nothing like religious politics. Fact is fact. Almost two years now how many people have died of covid and compare it to other diseases and accidents. Don't listen only to what is on Joy, BBC or CNN alone. Do proper research by yourself and you will see light in what the pastor is saying. Today's science is full of corrupt individuals who have connived with big pharma. The side effects of covid vaccine is real and sometimes more dangerous than covid itself in Ghana. There is no where in Ghana laws that allows force prevention of disease on anyone. The law can allow force treatment of disease but not prevention and covid 19 vaccine is prevention. Hence it is again the law to do that. The Ghana health services must come again. Individuals should decide if they want to take vaccine or not based on their own risk assessment not people who are benefitting from corrupt big pharma and subtle scientists. We should not try to import white man's decisions whether it fits to our circumstances or not. If we don't take care the repercussions of vaccine subtle side effects will surface 5 to 20 years time and you will be asking why that is happening.
Such pastors like opuni are more dangerous, why religious politics with this disease.please Osofo must go back to school and learn more before they should allowed to become pastors
Seriously? You are going to let a politician's lifestyle determine your chances of contracting COVID19. Please please, Osofo, this is a big time goof. Unless of course you are an anti-vaxxer. Please keep such asinine advice to your self.
