Authorities at the Philip Quaque Anglican Boys School in Cape Coast have called for immediate steps to rehabilitate the school building, as it has became a death trap.
The school which is the first basic school in West Africa and for that matter Ghana needs urgent attention.
The school was established in the year 1765 and has produced prominent personalities across the globe.
Madam Deborah Sam, a tutor in the school expressed her frustrations, saying; "per the nature of the school, we are uncomfortable teaching in the classes because we fear the building will collapse on us".
"Just yesterday one of the pillars fell on one of the pupils who sustained injuries and is still in the hospital receiving treatment," madam Sam said.
The school authorities are therefore seeking support from government, benevolents, institutions, old students, NGOs and all stakeholders to renovate the school building.
"We fear for our lives when sitting in the classroom, thus we don't have good tables and chairs to sit and write on, we are appealing to government and stakeholders to come and help us renovate our school as well as give us new tables and chairs," the pupils expressed their worry.
On her part a representative from the central regional Anglican Education Unit, madam Baaba Bearheart said the unit has been writing letters to various quarters to help the school but have proven futile.
She further called on the Anglican church to as a matter of urgency to come to the aid of the school.
