Bernard Allotey Jacobs has called on government to replace the teachers on strike with unemployed graduates to make up for the disruption in the academic calendar.
Teachers at the pre-tertiary level, on Monday, July 4, embarked on strike demanding a 20% increase in the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA).
Labour unions have also threatened to take similar industrial action commencing on Tuesday, July 19.
Although the State authorities in charge of addressing the unions' concerns have had a meeting with them to arrive at an amicable conclusion on the latest developments, the unions have however refused to call off their strike.
In view of this, Allotey Jacobs says the government should optimize the situation by taking the unemployed graduates to fill the vacuum created by the teachers on strike.
"If we employ the 1 millon unemployed graduates to start teaching whereas the teacher unions are negotiating with government, it would really help," he said.
He however appealed to the unions to reconsider their decision, saying "I plead with them that doing the right thing at the wrong time is as equal as doing the wrong thing. This is time for us to beat our chest to say that we are Ghanaians, so Mr. President, irrespective of your faults, the world is suffering, therefore we will support you to make things better".
The social commentator, Allotey Jacobs, made these submissions on Peace FM's morning show.

.....buh who keeps on giving him space and time on that prestigious and honorable platform, that it's very clear to every cockroach that he doesn't even deserve. I strongly suspect a "noko fioo" plying around ......
I thought grey hair is wisdom. How can an elderly person speak this way? Where we have gotten to under this government should tell any reasonable person to just plead with the people, everybody in the country is peeved except those currently occupying political offices. Looking at the current prices of goods and services how do you expect a teacher, nurse, civil servant, watchman, cook, driver, massenger to survive with their current salaries who only pays for trotro to and from work. Allotey Jacobs should as well tell the government to abolish the teacher and nursing training colleges because per his understanding any graduate can be a teacher or a nurse without going through any training. The last time when GLOGSAG went on strike a certain old man professor called on governments to sack all civil servants and replace them with the military. He however failed to tell us who will take over the job of the military, this is a professor oooo. As for Allotey jacobs what he's saying is fisherman talk, his statement won't cross the seashore, it ends where the fishmongers gather to buy his catch. These are the people making the NPP a very unpopular party. No wonder he's another stomach direction ***barred word***. If Ghana were a car the anger and disappointment speedometer should be reading 140 km per minute. If these are the people speaking for the NPP then they don't have the men they claim to have, these are comedians. The NPP better watch out. 2024 could be their worse election performance ever. Kufuor and his appointees made the NPP attractive for 8 years culminating in Akuffo Addo leading with 49% in the 2008 elections. Currently old ladies and market women are saying they voted massively for akuffo Addo in 2016 because they thought his government will be like the kufour one, unfortunately it's the direct opposite, they say it's because of almighty corona and the 'Russia/Ukraine World Cup qualifiers'. I nearly forgot, the commentator, Akuffo Addo, what's the score now? These 2 countries have become the national anthem of the NPP. Hope they will pass when they go for the IMF resit examinations. Grade A is out, they should go for the gentleman pass Grade D, i.e. 40-49. Good luck.
Please I would like to appeal to Despite Medium Group to present credible and respectable people to discuss issues on your platform rather than Allotey Jocabs. We have Prof. Agyekum, Hon. Nana Akomea and the likes who presents independent and professional thoughts on issues rather than this archaic and irrelevant Allotey Jacobs. We have to get serious here. It’s about the future generations and not playing stomach politics. He’s like a comedian on your platform. He had nothing sensible to offer Ghanaians. Look at how he messed up being the central regional chairman of the NDC.
Very unfortunate. Why do you appeal after saying they should be replaced.
Your comment even shows you are "irrelevant" to speak on the subject.
Please how do we say ***barred word*** in english?
