Senior Psychologist, Professor Joseph Osafo, has advised the Minister for Oti Region, Joshua G. Makuba, not to allow the iron ore in his Region to be exploited by illegal miners.
The Regional Minister, on Sunday, announced to the press that iron ore has been discovered in the Region.
“I want to advise people in Accra to start looking for land in the Oti Region because what is going to take Ghana from our current state to a very industrialised nation has been found in the Oti Region and that is the iron ore,” he said.
The Minister, also speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show Monday morning, detailed when and how the iron ore will be utilized.
" . . there are about six (6) companies at the Oti Region doing the mineral resource estimation. The last time we had an engagement in Oti Region, GIADEC, Geological Survey Authority and investors were there and told us it will take about six to eight months to do the mineral resource estimation...by somewhere January or February, at least they should come out with that results and then when that is done, the rest will be those who are coming in to mine," he told host Kwami Sefa Kayi.
He further discolsed that mining of the iron ore will commence next year.
Touching on this mineral discovery, Prof. Osafo cautioned the residents not to turn the communities where the ore is located into galamsey sites.
"Let us not hear that this one has also turned into galamsey . . . The youth in Oti Region should set a good example for us and I think that the Regional Minister and his people have a challenge to set a good example," he advised.

Hahahaaaa, Mr minister, if gold, timber, manganese, bauxite, cocoa, crude oil, the two giant harbours, cannot bail us out of the current mess in which so called politicians have plunged Ghana into, i doubt if iron ore will do the trick. Ghana's current challenges is not about resources, it's about leadership. Bet me if any European country has what Ghana has, nobody will go to bed hungry. Ghana is well endowed country. We have all we need to be better off. Unfortunately we are lacking in leadership. Nothing will change in the Oti region not to talk of the whole of Ghana. Go to Obuasi and see , is there anything there to show this is where gold is mined? Health care facilities, educational facilities, roads, are still challenges in some communities in Obuasi.
IF POLITICIANS DON'T GET INVOLVE THEN THIS GALAMSEY WON'T HAPPEN TO THIS BECAUSE GUINEA AND AUSTRALIA HAVE BEEN DOING IT FOR MANY YEARS NO CHINESE ON THEIR LAND FOR GALAMSY ONLY IN GHANA THE LAW DOESN'T WORK AND GHANA IMMIGRATION IS SUCH ***barred word*** ANYONE CAN WALK INTO GHANA LIKE A HORE HOUSE.
