Chief Linguist to the Okyehene, Nana Kwadwo Antwi Boasiako says his King, Amoatia Ofori Panin II never referred to Ghanaians venting their frustrations about President Nana Addo’s governance as “villagers and witches”.
He claims the revered King's comment have been ‘twisted’ and “taken out of context” by the media.
“He [Amoatia Ofori Panin II] never said that those people (criticising Akufo-Addo's poor governance) are villagers and witches, listen to the full tape and tell me where he said that,” he challenged.
The Okyehene's Chief Linguist was speaking in an interview on NEAT FM’s morning show, Ghana Montie.
Background
The Okyehene, Amoatia Ofori Panin II has been in the news for allegedly describing critics of President Akufo-Addo's governance as ‘villagers’ and ‘witches.’
Speaking at the inauguration of the Archeaconry Service held at the St. Martin Anglican Church in Kyebi in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region on Sunday, October 23, 2022, the traditional leader called on Ghanaians to appreciate the significant contribution of the president to the development of the country.
Cultured Person Never Insults An Elder
He explained that the president’s numerous policies such as the Free Senior High School, are reasons Ghanaians should be grateful to him.
“We must appreciate the feat of the president and show him an appreciation for what he has done for Ghana. We must defend and protect him.
"… those insulting the president are children of villagers. They are uncivilized. No well-nurtured person will insult an elderly. If you were raised in the church, you will not insult an elder. If you are not a villager then you may be a witch or wizard,” he was reported to have said.

Best nmpo nie per your definition, then his worst state would have wiped us from the surface of the earth. Best and talks by heart and not by the head! Best, and his travelling expenses cost us fortunes? Best, and Asanti tour saw 56 porri porri v8's in these trying times? Should i go on? Ofa-Ata, did you just work up from sleep or born yesterday? if not, then cast your mind back to when this ***barred word*** man of a president was going round begging for votes!!! Can you compare the insults he and his team hipped on his opponents? Karma is always waiting patiently! The rod used on Takyi was preserved and now being used on Baah!! Lastly, the good book encourages us to do unto others what we want done to us!!!
I do not believe Ghanaians buy into this kind of politics of vilification and doom, damning everything except themselves. It is ridiculous for certain individuals and dishonest intellectuals to ostensibly assume or take hold of the platform to speak and present the interests of Ghanaians. Their real goal is popularity and parochial political interest. And I bet you, most of them are paid for what they say and present. Discerning Ghanaians know them by their misdeeds, whether as NDC war-corps or footsoldiers, and chastise them for what they misrepresent. It is primitive for any serious journalist or press officer to spew insults at any political opponent, let alone President Akufo-Addo. Whether you like it or not, most Ghanaians know that Akufo-Addo is one of the best presidents.
So is this linguist telling us we don't understand twi or is he saying we can't interpret twi for ourselves? The chief insulted us in the face including the linguist himself because he lives in a village.
