The Volta River Authority (VRA) has temporarily shut down the Aboadze Thermal Plant in Takoradi in the Western Region.
The action follows a recent cut in gas supply to the plant by Nigeria Gas, the company that generally provides gas to the Volta River Authority. The situation resulted in power outages in some parts of the country over the weekend.
In an interview with Citi News, the Public Relations Officer of VRA, Mrs. Gertrude Koomson, said although the authority is yet to receive the full quantity of gas from the Nigerian Company, it has resorted to using crude oil for the Akosombo and Asogli plants to serve consumers.
