President John Atta Mills on Thursday inaugurated a building for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) in Accra and appealed to management and workers to make sure the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) satisfied the needs of the people.
He said it was not the building per se, which is situated at Ridge in Accra, that would guarantee the health of the people but what went on inside.
The President, who ends his three-day tour of the Greater Accra Region on Thursday, said there were competent people to handle the NHIS, stressing that good quality health was one of the ideals of Government.
He said the NHIS was a vehicle that would deliver good quality health to the people and called for prudent management of the Scheme.
President Mills warned that reported cases of corruption, stealing and dishonesty that had allegedly characterized the system must be a thing of the past.
The Most Rev Charles Agyin-Asare, Presiding Bishop of the Word Miracle Church, dedicated the building.
President Mills also inspected progress of work on the Achimota-Ofankor Road.
Work is more than 83 per cent complete and is expected to be completed in the next seven months. President Mills apologized for the inconvenience caused to motorists and residents in the area.
