The president of the Ghana Registered Nurses Association, Mr. Kwame Adinkra Amo has described statements made by the former director General of the Ghana Health Service, Prof. Badu Akosa in support of governments decision to scrap allowances of trainee nurses as unfortunate.
According to him, Prof Akosa benefited from allowances from government when he was under training at the medical school so does not understand why he wants it scrapped.
He alleged that Prof. Akosa when he was director general of the Ghana Health Service, used his office to amass wealth for himself and his family.
Speaking with Hello FM's King Edward, Mr. Amo disclosed that nursing is a very difficult profession and that Prof Akosa should carefully consider the problems nursing students encounter and the high admission cost they incur even before they are admitted at the nurses training colleges.
Mr. Amo said government should reconsider its decision to scrap these allowances but rather maintain it to serve as motivation for the nurses.
