Information reaching Daily Guide indicates that the officer in charge of the Tesano Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Sophia E. Ennin, has been interdicted.
Her interdiction, according to sources, was to allow the police to investigate allegations of professional misconduct leveled against her, with regard to granting bail to a suspected rapist brought to the station.
It would be recalled that Daily Guide published in yesterdays edition a story about a pastor of a Sowutuom-based church who allegedly raped an 18-year old school leaver.
The suspect, Isaac Asante, an associate pastor of Charisma International Worship Center, Sowutuom, was allegedly granted bail after he was arrested upon complaints made by the victims parents.
Pastor Asante allegedly raped the 18-year-old Senior High School leaver who had gone to him for prayers. The alleged rapist purportedly mixed something with olive oil and gave it to the victim to drink to protect her from demonic attacks.
The victim, after taking the said oil, felt dizzy and became unconscious after which the said pastor had sexual intercourse with her.
The matter was reported to the Tesano DOVVSU which arrested the pastor, but he was released without the matter being taken to court.
DSP Cephas Arthur, the Public Affairs Director of the Ghana Police Service, who confirmed the interdiction of DSP Ennin to DAILY GUIDE, said it was to allow the police administration to investigate the matter.
The rape case had been taken over by the police headquarters for investigation after the father of the victim petitioned the IGP over the release of the suspect.
Meanwhile, the Charisma International Worship Center has denied that Isaac Asante is an associate pastor of the church.
