The Kumasi Metropolitan Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church, Most Rev. Justice Gabriel Yaw Anokye, has urged Ghanaians, especially the youth to make use of the existing Natural Resources like Gold, Bauxite, Diamond, Manganese etc, and shun the craze to go abroad for greener pastures, where they always suffer after acquiring education in Ghana.

Archbishop Anokye, who doubles as the vice-President of conference of Catholic Bishops in Africa, made this call at Dompoase St. Joseph Catholic Church, which has been carved out from the Kyirapatre Parish to a Rectorate, after installing Rev. Fr. Kwadwo Owusu Piesie, as its first Rector during a church service last Sunday.

At a sermon, Archbishop Anokye, reiterated the need for Christians to be God fearing and make the death of Jesus Christ a meaningful one and desists from ungodly attitudes by quoting 2Timothy 3:1 – 6.

He, therefore, charged the first and the newly installed Rector Rev. Fr. Kwadwo Owusu Piesie, together with the congregation to work hard so that in no time Dompoase St. Joseph Rectorate becomes a full parish to run its own affairs based on the doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church.

In an interview with the Herald Newspaper, the Kumasi Archbishop, bemoaned the high rate of Catholics defection from the church to join other churches and other religious groups, , adding that since the 2000 population census in Ghana, 15.1per cent were Catholics, but in 2010 the number reduced to 13.1 per cent, based on this, he encouraged evangelization throughout all catholic churches in Ghana and the world as a
whole.

On Ebola, most Rev. Gabriel Anokye, charged the youth in Africa to desist from indiscriminate sexual activities and pray that the deadly
diseases doesn’t come to Ghana, whilst that of the affected countries should be free of the diseases after many preventive measure have been put in place by the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO).

On his part, Rev. Fr. Kwadwo Owusu Piesie, who has been in priesthood for the past 15 years, was full of joy and urged all Christians to be steadfast in whatever they do to see God’s blessing.

He, therefore, charged all Christians of Dompoase to make the place a “Mecca of all nations”.

Mr. Nti Buabeng, the church president also thanked the archbishop for creating Dompoase church as a Rectorate after 48 years in existence.
Ten pupil received confirmation, whilst deserved personalities also took home plaques and citations for their roles in developing the church.

The programme was attended by Ms. Georgina Opoku Amankwa, Deputy Director of Finance and Administration at the Electoral Commission (EC), Nana Owusu Boampong; Dompoase/Otumfoo Tumantuhene and her queen, Nana Amamo Baidoo: Fante chief of Atonsu Area, Parish Priests, and Religious leaders from different churches and family and friends.
