A mini Benz bus with a defective braking system, Monday morning, run over six pedestrians at Bantama in Kumasi, injuring them.
The bus somersaulted and in the process smashed a concrete fence of the doctors’ flats of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
The six injured pedestrians were rushed to the KATH for treatment.
The incident which occurred around 8:20 am caused a huge vehicular traffic on the main road leading from the Komfo Anokye Roundabout to Pampamso in the Central Business District of Kumasi.
Briefing Graphic Online, the Deputy Ashanti Regional MTTU Commander, DSP Charles Ahiamale, said the vehicle had no operational brakes and that the brake cables had been tied with a cloth to hold them from dragging on the road.
He said the police quickly rushed to the scene to prevent further accidents.
According to DSP Ahiamale, a cursory inspection of the vehicle by the police revealed that the rickety vehicle had no operational brakes.
The vehicle’s tyres were also worn out exposing their inherent metals.
DSP Ahiamale said an appropriate action would be taken following investigations.
